What have the English managers won?

That sums it up for me too, FF. We can bang on about wanting English managers all we like, but when the contenders haven't won so much as a game of cards, surely the FA have to explore other options.

I disagree about Pearce being manager, hes got the patriotism and his ability to provide enchoragement and motivation, but lack any major managerial experiance.

Scloari is the only non-english manager on the list, and also the best candidate based purely on experiance (beong the only manager to win the world cup and take a team to the Euro Champs, on the list), but a lot of people say that the english game is a different style of play to most other countries and scolari has never had the experiance of managing in this league.

He has proved hes not scared of maaking big decision, such as taking off figo in euro 2004... would Mclaren be able to take Beckham if we are 1-0 down at half time, i dont think he would. In End i think its a toss up for me between O'Neill and Sclori, and it looks like the F.A. have made there mind up (if you believe the press).

For me football (as with all sport) is a tribal thing - 'my local lot are better than yours' and that is why I have always supported local teams.

When I was fit enough to play, I played for my local pub team (Top House), even though I could have played elsewhere.

When my knee collapsed I spent three years watching Millwall (Charlton were playing at Palarse and Gillingham - just NO).

Then I got my knee back in shape - back to the Top House.

Now, I go to the fleet.

It is all about locality.

That extends to the National team. I want the best from over here to take on the best from anywhere else. If that means we have an inferior manager and have to make the best of it, then so be it. I'd far rather see how the best England can offer (players/managers/coaches/physios/etc) get on against the rest of the world.

So for my money - it should be an English manager.

(by the way, I only think this way about sport - otherwise not a xenophobic or nationalistic bone in my body)

SCOLARI RULES HIMSELF OUT OF THE JOB

The Brazilian, the coach of Portugal, said he had been shocked by intrusion into his life by the English media. "There are 20 reporters outside my house now," said Scolari, who had been strongly tipped in this week's media to become Sven-Goran Eriksson's successor.

"If that is part of another culture, it is not part of my culture. I am not the coach, and will not be (England's) coach.

"I don't want this situation involving England because in two days during which I was not coach, I never agreed to anything, my life was invaded. My privacy was totally under siege."

In the last few days when I was not even the manager of England my freedom was taken away from me and that is not the coaching I am used to."

Makes you wonder why anyone would be idiot enough to leave a sunny climate where you're judged on performances to come to somewhere where a bunch of w*****s will camp on your doorstep and everyone will hate you before you've even started. Much like leaving Havant and ending up in Gravesend... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Our wonderful media really excelled themselves this time, normally they wait until the manager is installed before slowly trying their level best to undermine him.

They are a bunch of parasites, and any respected journalist (yes there are a few,a very small few i.e. John Pilger) would probably like to divorce themselves from the tabloid fishwives.

Scolari would have undoubtedly been the best choice after possibly Hiddink, and now were left with McLaren, Allardyce & Curbishley, reasonable enough Premier Div. managers but not good enough for the national team.

I just hope that the rabble are pleased with themselves, and of course they'll tell you it's all in the public interest B------KS!!!!
