Northwood 4 Hornchurch 2

When Steve Jones put us 2-0 up in this Bryco Cup game on the hour no-one was expecting such a turnaround with Northwood scoring 4 superb goals and looking likely to score with every attack.

The first half was fairly even with Kevin Marsden having a header off the line, Paul Wood making several sprawling saves and home keeper Rob Bullivant pushing over from an Andrew Martin strike. Then with 3 minutes of the half left Barrie Fox volleyed home through a crowd of players from a half cleared Scott Gooding centre. Martin set up Jones a minute later only to see the final effort dragged wide and Martin had a further chance when put through by Fox, his initial shot rebounding back into his path off the keeper and the second coming back off the post - one of those misses you later regret.

A misplaced pass across the defensive line put Jones in for our second but all it did was to spark Northwood into life. Two minutes later Gavin Hart pulled a goal back with a volley from 20 yards which crashed in off the bar and three minutes later Scott Fitzgerald stooped to head in the equaliser. Fitzgerald put the home side ahead for the first time on 77 minutes when he nodded home unchallenged from a corner. Northwood's 4th goal came on the counter attack in the dying minutes, Chris Moore scampered down the right flank and centered for Kieran Knight who juggled the ball from right foot to left foot and drilled the ball home past the advancing Paul Wood.

Line-up:- Wood, Cripps, Bates, Jopson (McDonald 57), Marsden, Fox, Locke, Gooding, Jones, Martin (Cowley 88), Benstock. Subs not used:- Carter, Kharine (GK)

I didn't see it either, so I can't help you there, but obviously the result is disappointing. We do seem to be finding it difficult to control games when we go into a lead and obviously some adjustments to the system are required, A good team, (and we are) do not turn into a bad team, (which we have been in one or two second half performances) overnight. The manager will get to grips with this one and we must get behind him and the team. It is important that we have a united camp at the present time and we will overcome these tactical relapses, never fear. Let us also not take to much away from Northwood, they were a good team when they came here in the league, we played very well that day and Nicky Lowrie scord a great goal to beat them. They are also top of the Division so let's be fair, well done to them for having the balls to pick themselves up and come from two down. (such narrow margins) if the Jones scores the third instead of hitting the post, well who knows ...We should learn from their attitude 'me thinks'......away from the cup excitement... two very important results went our way last night, the camels and Slough both got shafted. Oh dear........... keep the faith urchins..

Thanks for the positive comments, makes a change to get a compliment from another team who you have beaten and when we have played well which we did in the second half.

I thought that the game could have gone either way until we scored the equaliser and then we were always favourites, it was a good game thouigh and for 60 minutes we looked like going out of the comp. One win each now and the decider up here shortly, we know that you are the team to beat in the league this year so we'll be up for it, we know that you will be and you will also be welcome once again. Cheers.
