Just got home. We played pretty well tonight but just couldn't finish any attack off. Drury hit the bar in the second half. We also it the bar in the first half from close range anmd overall it just wasn't our night.

Well done to the the other 11 supporters that made the journey tonight.

Still nice to hear some positive comments, after all the doom and gloom of late. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" /> Ohh well done in making the trip.

I cannot comment on the performance last night as I wasn't there, it certainly sounds like the team played better than perhaps they have in recent games.

However, the facts are that once again the 'Fleet lost and once again the opposition scored twice in two minutes.

I am afraid, it does not matter how it is 'dressed-up' its still yet another disappointing result, amongst a hole string of disappointing results. Thank god this season is nearly over, as the teams confidence must be 'shot to pieces', despite the apparent opposite image that is given by the club. The current squad and indeed current form, if carried into next season, would suggest that the Fleet would be certs for relegation.

Unless something drastic happens during the pre-season period, a major strengthening of the squad and dare I say putting a manager in place who knows what he is doing, then even at this early stage, the 2006/07 season looks like it could be a very very long season.

It would be 'sods law' that if the 'Fleet were to finish in a relegation place we would not have the same luck as Forest Green, avoided relegation for the last two seasons due to others mis-fortunes and likley to do the same this season.

Unfortunately, even if the club wanted rid of LD, I suspect they wouldn't want to pay off his contract. It would interesting to see the balance of accounts for the year ending 31 March 2006. Poor cup runs, poor gates will have impacted deeply into the coffers, and to start next term we have lost the Gladwish sponsorship, have to pay towards rebuilding the Northfleet End, and still have to find a new club to groundshare.

All in all, I cannot see the club making any extravagent signings, but may look to stars of the future more locally.

It's going to be a slog next year, and only the most biased will think otherwise.

When does his contract end though? This summer or next summer? That's the key question.

I thought LD had an 18 month contract - which would take him until about Christmas 2006. I stand to be corrected, though. I have no idea what his salary is either, but if it was even £30,000 , the club would be reluctant to pay him off 6 months early.

BTW JC, you always take a considered, low key and well thought out approach to most things on here, how do you see things developing next year?

It was said at the time that Liam had signed a two-year contract. Since he joined mid-season, it was unclear whether this meant to the end of 2005/2006 or to the end of 2006/2007.

If it is the latter, you'd have to say that giving such a long contract (by our standards anyway; I can't remember us ever giving out such a long deal either to a player or manager) to a relatively inexperienced manager would be somewhat surprising.

As for next season, the results of the last few weeks in isolation obviously suggest that we'll be in a relegation dogfight next year. Taking our recent injury problems into account does provide some comfort, providing we suffer from them less next season. However, whether we end up in mid-table again (the very best I'm expecting) or are scrapping at the bottom depends a lot on the summer's player movements, and particularly whether we can retain certain key players (Messrs. Holloway, Jackson, Bowry and Saunders in particular). Therefore it would be foolish to make a definitive judgement just yet. That said, there clearly aren't too many grounds for optimism just at the moment.

We are in a very similar position to this time last season, poor results after we were safe from relegation, very few players signed for next season.

Predictions for next season are also likely to be similar, some will expect us to be relegated by Christmas, some will expect us to win the league....Harry will go for both alternating depending on the latest result.

Given that once again the pants teams in this league look like getting a reprieve the relegation favourites are probably those currently at the bottom but like JC I will reserve judgement until we get to see next years team.

Yeh, I have to say an away defeat to Halifax, whom we haven't beaten away yet in the Conference and who are in the playoffs is really disappointing...

And who also haven't lost a league game at home this season, the only side in the top five divisions to have that distinction.

A tad harsh against a man who can't fight back, Slarti? People can accuse him of many things, but fickleness isn't really one of them.

Still, his pre-season prediction of fifth did him little favours. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
