Trusts seem to be common

http://www.supporters-direct.org/englandwales/links.htm

We're using Supporters Direct, so look forward to seeing us there very soon!

What will be the official name of the trust?

I didn't see Torquay or Brighton on the list so we could become the first "Gulls Trust" - Canvey Island Supporters Trust sounds boring.

Any of you "artists" got ideas for a logo? (obviously one that hasn't been copyrighted like our last club badge!)

Or perhaps use the new logo as a competition?

i cant remember the exact wording (i will bring the programme in to work tomorrow for an exact quote) but in Wardys column it was saying that the budget for next year could be at the £5000 a week mark. he also says in the section where he talks about Sedgemore that he is a great player and ANYTHING is possible for £5000.

Maybe Wardy is funding us next season <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I doubt Wardy would just pluck a figure out of the air so i`d like to know where he got it from, if we have anywhere near £5000p/w to run the club next season i`d be amazed.

£5000p/w for a playing budget and £5000p/w to finance the whole club are obviously totally different amounts.

I would guess that the only sponsor who pays a significant amount is our shirt sponsor and i doubt if that deal will continue next season, so unless we find a replacement most of that money is lost.

When we drop leagues the entrance price will have to drop to that level meaning less income. Maybe we can make up that shortfall by getting more people through the gate but you can`t set a budget on what you hope the attendance may be, it`s got to be realistic.

Take out what it costs the club for electric, water and the lease, that wont leave a lot for a manager, physio and 16/17 players and travel expenses.

Allot of football clubs at the level we are looking at run on allot less that £5000 a week. and to be honest if Canvey cant raise more than that a week they might as well shut their doors. im assuming that sponsorship at the ground is done on a season to season basis so people should already be looking for more, the yellow pages should be gone through and every company sent a letter giving them the chance, as well as little companies we should be looking at national and international companies. you will be astonished at the budget companies have for advertising and the trouble they have spending it. rather than selling it on gate appearances it is easier to sell it on the amount of people that will see the advertising hoardings or shirt sponsor. "a shirt sponsor will be seen by over 100,000 people weekly and for a small amount your company could have its name there" approach and you would have no problem finding companies. sports firms like Nike and Addidas do funding and sponsorship for kits only taking a small percentage of the kit sales.

money is easy to find, you just have to go out and really sell the club. this hasn’t been done and is largely the reason the club is in the problems it is

I know Newquay are at a completely different level but the club could not exist without fans.

The clubhouse is staffed by volunteer supporters, cleaned by the same folk - turnstiles manned, tea-bar run, programme put together and printed free by a sponsor. We have 2 part time bar staff and a groundman that gets beer money. We enter the FA Vase and CUP and get someone to sponsor the entry fee.

Newquay may be a small town (Pop 20,000) and most surf or play rugby - but it is the fans who keep football alive in this part of the world.

Im sure Dr Spink will know plenty of business folk, knock on his door and ask him to put the word about - and then vote labour anyway.

KEEP THE FAITH.

What is getting me down is this negative approach as to whether we can operate in the Conf South. The man from Supporters Direct seems to think that it is well possible. So why not wait and see what the figurework runs to with regard to amongst other things revenue from advertising around the pitch perimiter, the cost of programme printing the revenue from advertising in that. As stated, if the supporters are going to run the club surely they will have the opportunity to take on the club bars and the refreshment stalls. I am sure that there other incomings. I looked at the attendances in Conf South and they are mostly below our own.

Lets wait until we can do the fugurework and then see what league we will be best suited for..

Is it being negative or just realistic? A number of clubs in the Conf South have backers behind them and other sources of income, we (it seems) will be starting from scratch.

I don`t want the club to be mid-low table in the Conf South and still in a tricky financial position, i want us to have a solid foundation, if that means dropping down the leagues then that`s the way it`s got to be.

As you say let`s wait for the numbers to be figured out, i`d be more than happy to be pleasantly suprised.

Exactly; People talking of Essex Senior, is to me taking us to a ridiculously low situation.

Am sure that given the opportunity 'Tony Richardson' given the chance and if he wants it would I am sure be able to peruse the current and future financial situation and advise!!

I would love us to ply our trade in Conf South Cangull and feel this would keep a lot of supporter interest.

However, unlike virtually every other club in Conf South we will be starting from scratch. Potentially we have no manager, no players, no sponsors, no experience and Jeff still has agreements in place for the ground lease and probably the supply of beer. All Conf South clubs have most of these in place whether they are good or bad aspects. They know roughly what money is already coming in - we don't.

What is really going to stuff us up as a club is "time". We will have about 12 weeks to get all this in place and sorted out. I don't doubt peoples energy and commitment to this club but the timescales to get it all in place and work out a budget that will sustain a club is in my opinion not going to happen. Other clubs are already announcing or arranging friendly fixtures - we don't even know what league we are going to end up in. We could do with some good friendlies being organised (Tilson & Southend would be good) and try and get some cash into the coffers.

We also talk of what league we want to play in but unfortunately it will be what league we are allowed to play in. If we can't start in Conf South then the slope down the pyramid becomes steeper. No one will let you start in the "premier divisions" lower down - you'll start in their repective bottom divisions. We have no given right to leap frog other clubs.

In some respects Jeff has sustained the club and left it debt free but the delays in announcements etc. are really going to cripple us.

My heart says Conf South but my brain says somewhere more sustainable further down the pyramid.

Good luck to the team and Yellow Army at Halifax this afternoon unfortunately I can't make our final game and "the end of an era". Be loud and proud.
