This week's papers

Some good stuff in this week’s papers.

In the Express excellent letters from both Ted and Martin alongside some nonsense from some guy who reads Cllr Brian Hewitt’s letter and responds without finding out all the facts first – taking what Hewitt says to be true.

Some good news in the Observer as well with it being confirmed that Gareth has signed an 18-month contract, but we will not stand in his way (rightly) if a league club comes in. At least that stops the ‘big spending’ Ryman sides from poaching him.

Also really happy to see Eddie talking about getting in new players early-on in pre-season and not waiting till the last minute to get them in - as has been the case in previous seasons. That way it’s not a last minute rush to get a side together and Eddie can get the players he wants.

From a playing point of view now all we need is Hodgey to say he want’s to stay next season!

I hope my letter will be printed next week. However, it said....

In a single letter to your paper (Footing bill for footie, Express, April 14) Cllr Brian Hewitt perfectly demonstrates the fundamental lack of understanding of the problems encountered by Slough Town FC that is symptomatic of the entire ruling council. Such are the level of inaccuracies and blatant untruths in his letter, is difficult to know where to begin in highlighting both the incompetence of those currently in power and the lengths to which they will go to curry favour with potential voters.

Let me set the most important fact straight; Slough Town FC has never asked the council for money, only co-operation in identifying a suitable site that can be purchased at a fair market value by the owners of the Club. Cllr Hewitt seems unaware that Wexham Park is not owned by Slough Town FC or that the freehold was sold by Slough Borough Council three years ago. It was this very move, and the reluctance of the purchasers to grant an extended lease to the Club, which prohibits a return rather than any financial wrongdoing as Cllr Hewitt claims. Slough Borough Council pocketed £300,000 out of the sale of the site at Wexham Park and not one penny has been reinvested in the club or in trying to help it return to the town. On that basis, the tax payers of Slough have benefited quite significantly in financial terms from the club, not the other way round as Cllr Hewitt would have you believe.

Cllr Hewitt claims that the current council have offered assistance although it is the club and its supporters who have constantly campaigned for discussions with the council without reply. Maybe he forgets Cllr Stokes’ boastful claim to the local media on being elected that he was determined to stop Slough Town FC being found a new home as part of any regeneration.

I trust the voters of Slough will see through their smokescreen at the upcoming elections.

Observer also says Hodges has a broken nose to go with his broken toe. Typical!

Methinks that letter from Mr. Marsden in the Express will get a whole host of replies in next week's edition, as well as more replies to Cllr Hewitt.

I didn't see anything about the sponsored walk in either paper - anyone else slightly surprised, or did I miss something?

Another front page story in this week's Observer...

"Police Probe Scool Petition"

"A petition which claimed to show opposition to a Muslim school is being investigated by Police." It goes on to say that a sample of the petition is being sent to handwriting experts to verify whether some of the responses submitted are "bogus names".

Maybe we should ask for the infamous Britwell survey, which concluded that 137,000 people (278% according to Janik's maths) were against the football club, to be investigated along similar lines?!

I also sent in a ver stroppy letter. Will be doing another one though! I said that some people will takes hewitts letter as 'fact', and bless mr marsden!

Looking forward to the walk tomorrow, but I was intrigued as to see no mention of it.

What puzzled me, and maybe I am thick , but the xpress surely knows the facts of our plight, but left Hewitts letter alone and looking as if it were fact. So does this mean any twat with no knowledge can make up any old [****!!****] and the express will print it?

Gissa job!

Ian says 'Cllr Stokes’ boastful claim to the local media on being elected that he was determined to stop Slough Town FC being found a new home as part of any regeneration.'

I have often seen a bloke I recognise as a councellor with his daughter at games, is he not Stokes ?

Rob has regularly attended games over the last two years and both his daughters have been brought up to support their local team and also are regulars at Stag Meadow. Meanwhile, Stokes and his coalition cllr's have not been to a Slough Town game for decades, if ever, despite being given free tickets on more than one occasion. Clearly, on that basis, they know everything there is to know. NOT.
