Altrincham to be relegated??

Unless something dramatic happens between now and the end of the season, it looks like one of the relegation places has been settled today.

 

Altrincham have been deducted 18 points for fielding a player without receiving international clearance.

 

Looks like a very costly mistake.

However, if Scarborough don't come out of administration before the end of May and Canvey resign from the division, it won't matter how many points they've been deducted.

True enough - it still leaves a particularly bitter taste in the mouth to see Forest Green at the forefront of grassing people up and stirring stuff just to escape the drop themselves.

 

Yet again those relegated will not be for footballing reasons which again leaves weak sides in the league - this may be to our benefit next year.

From Confguide, I think Alty will appeal, especially since they seem to be naive innocents who have been found guilty, whilst the real guily party, Accy, have got away scot free, having played an uncleared player then released him to Alty.

The question is, how far back into a player's history do you need to delve to confirm that he doesn't require a clearance of one sort or another?

Was away on holiday last week so I clearly missed something about Canvey Island.

I knew there were problems, talk about moving and/or merging with Chelmsford City and King withdrawing some of his financial support, but when did they resign from the Conference and if they haven't resigned why are they going to be relegated?

An update from someone would be very much appreciated....Ta!

They collected 18 points in the thirteen games he played. Fair enough, rules are rules and he shouldn't have been allowed to play, but did he directly contribute to help win every one of those 18 points? If Alty do go down, it's a silly mistake to get relegated on.

Interestingly, Conference rules state that they "may vary the decision in respect of the deduction of points gained only in a case where a substitute player participates in a match". (Extract taken from Alty official website).

 

Therefore, the punishment could have been only 10 points.
