Sponsored Walk....COUNTDOWN!

Only a couple of days to go now until we embark on the walk to Harrow. It was this morning (Thursday) last year when five of us set off from Wexham Park en route to Worthing. BFR had done the eminently sensible thing and started on the Wednesday. Brings back good memories - it was about this time of the morning that Dominic started chatting up a very nice, and clearly terrified, young lady at a bus stop!

Anyway, Harrow is just a short trek but here's a few tips based on the experiences of the last few years.

1. Wear decent shoes. It's impossible to overestimate the value in a decent pair of shoes to walk in. Last year I invested in an expensive pair of walking boots and they were a lifesaver. BFR will testify the problem with inappropriate footwear.

2. Take a change of socks!. If your feet do get tired along the route, sit down for a couple of minutes and change your socks. Works wonders.

3. Make sure you drink lots of water. It's surprising how much fluid you lose, even walking a short distance.

4. Food!.Take chocolate or other sugary/energy giving food.

5. Take a light waterproof jacket. In previous years we've been very lucky with the weather. Don't risk it!

6. Walk at your pace. You will have different peaks of energy to others so stride on ahead when you feel like it and slow down when you need to. It's very difficult trying to walk at somebody else's pace.

7. Be careful!. The route is very busy in terms of traffic. Please take care and mind the roads.

8. Enjoy yourself. Arriving at the destination provides a great sense of achievement so enjoy yourself. It's all for an excellent cause.

9. No moaning and asking, "are we there yet?"!. That one is for my two eldest kids who are walking with me!

I'll post a note later with the route so those travelling by car might like to search us out to offer encouragement, rather than taking the A40. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
