And the club want the best for him. I don't expect him to be here for much longer and fully expect him to get snapped up by a Championship or higher club over the summer if not before.

People at the club, particularly Roy Merryweather, have helped the development of a number of young players in the past, some have even gone on to play at an international level, so I think they will be able to guide G well.

And I have no anonymous mates thanks.

I'm sure G wouldn't have signed unless he was happy - he's under no obligation to after all.

True, the club would love to recieve a transfer fee for him, but the club wouldn't stop any player from going on to bigger and better things - Eddie Denton has said the same thing about Josias Carbon and Ian Hodges in the past.

Another factor, which Eddie mentioned in the press a few weeks back, is that Gareth being under contract would put a stop to some of the more 'direct' approaches from other clubs, which could unsettle him and affect his game.

Contract or not, he'll still make it to the Football League.

agreed matt, he will have no problems getting into the league, however i think the championship may just be out of he reach at this time, maybe in a few years but not quite yet. a league 1 or 2 club would probably be a more realistic expectation at this time IMO.

however i would have no complaints seeing him get a saints contract, but appreciate it would take a hell of a lot to get past some of the young talents into the first team there, and im sure it would be the same at any other championship club.

i think you will find im talking about G and his chances of moving up to the highest level, it just happens that saints are one of the mentioned clubs. ian knows about his chances at watford, i know about his chances at saints.

I think G will benifit from the "Oxford environment" at Southampton as he knows some of the players and the coaching staff who are originally from Oxford or have coached in Oxford.

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned the obvious - Brentford.

1. Martin Allen took has taken a chance on players at this level before.

2. The step is not as big a jump as the Championship (should Brentford not get promoted)

3. We do have some sort of link up with Brentford bringing Mousinho, Masters, Ide and Moleski in.

I'm not sure he is though. Gareth is like Jamie Brooks, definitely not a centre forward and not really an out and out winger. Both have sufficient ability to get away with playing out of position at Ryman level but they won't in the football league, particularly at Championship level which, technically, is very strong.

I hope G finds his right position and does well, wherever he goes, as long as it isn't Luton or Wycombe.

How sad does your life have to be to talk to yourself under two different names on an internet forum?!

I suggest trying the Samaritans on 08457-90-90-90 or, alternatively, check Multimap for directions to Beachey Head.
