G has a couple of trials this & next week.

He is currently at Watford this week (playing tonight in the reserves against Charlton, back for saturdays game, then off to Southampton next week.

Was just browsing your site for some information on the lad, do you think he's up to Championship level eventually? Seems to be catching the eyes of a few scouts

Good question, the simple answer is yes. What I would say is look for 1- Quality Crossing 2- Pace & Control 3- Skill & Awareness

I definitely think with the professional coaching available at the likes of Watford, Reading, Southampton, he has a good chance of progressing. Certainly rated higher than Beckford, who went to Leeds recently, by a lot of people here.

 

Have a look at his goal of the season clips as well. The one against Hendon was class.

Saints do like to bring through promising youngsters, if not into the first team then on loan to other clubs. If he was to move from Slough i would love to see him sign for saints!!

Not just Lightning quick but very technical. At 18? he'll improve, get quicker/stonger. I think he could cut it. Best of Luck G

Hope he impresses on trial tonight then, we only have 2 recognised first team strikers so chances would be there for him at Watford. Quite a few players trialing for us at the moment

Target man he's not. Playing just off and around the main striker or on either wing is his best positions

McCleary is a raw talent who could already be playing at a far higher level, and he's only 18. Best player I've seen at this level I think - very skilful, very quick, great crosser of the ball, and has proven he is an excellent winger and has also been playing up front to further his footballing 'education'. I think we'll see him playing Championship football before very long, where he'll flourish with professional coaching.

With my Watford connections, I've just spoken with one of the playing/coaching staff who's at the reserve game this evening. I've given him a bit of background on Gareth and asked him to look out for him. He's going to ring me after the game to let me know how he does so we'll get some first hand feedback! Gareth played centre forward against a decent young Charlton side who were two up with a few minutes to go. Not sure as centre forward they'll see the best of him.

 

It struck me after what I'd posted earlier that I shouldn't necessarily post feedback on a public message board, not until they make a decision on him anyway.

I heard at Braintree that he signed an 18 month contract with us.

G has signed a contract with Slough. I'm not sure of the length, but he's definitely agreed to a contract with us.

Didn't impress in the game tonight, all of the 4 trialists who played didn't have great evenings. But he's only 18 so hard for the lad to settle in just like that, hopefully he'll impress with his attitude in training or something if he stays here for a few days.

im not sure that he has quite what it takes to get a success at saints, if he has one of his greay games then he may make an impact, but the saints reserves team is very strong at the moment.
