Aveley 0 Towners 0

Well, wasn't that a load of cr*p? First half we created some good chances but, as usual, we were too light up front. Second half was awful. Can't understand why Nyman was taken off as he seemed to be one of the few that really was trying. The last quarter was the worse and Aveley should have made more use of their possession. Still, for those who will struggle without football before the World Cup, at least we'll have one, and maybe two, extra games to watch. However, from a side that was high on confidence and looking certain for second place, we now look low on confidence and will end up playing a team on a igh after making the play-offs.

Hope the Aveley keeper who went off looking very rough at the end of the first half is OK and well done to their replacement who pulled off a couple of good saves.

Well every season has one and I guess ours was tonight.....AGAIN!

What was that all about?

Happy was right it got worse as the game went on, Dean Nyman was predictably taken off & replaced with Johnny Morgan.....WHY?

We knew we had to win after Corby's earlier result, so we made positive changes such as a fit right back for another right back & ended the match with just Hammett up front or so it appeared.

BLOODY AWFUL!

Here's my positive comments from tonight's game.

Sorry, but I do not have any.

I mentioned a couple of week's ago that we had a chance of 1st place after Boreham Wood had lost. We seem to have got worse since then and just made up the numbers tonight.

From a strong 2nd position, we seem destined to end up third with the chance to make the next jump up through the play offs. Mind you, on this performance we won't be going anywhere.

I must add a message of thanks for all the extra stewards and match day staff that were provided for the extra pound they charged today. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

What a bank holiday monday it was - myself and glory hunter travelled to barton to see a very poor corby side have 4 shots at goal and score 3 of them play a barton team who should have been 2-0 up before corby scored there 1st and for barton to smash the crossbar a minute after going 1-0 down.

So after watching these 2 dire teams play at the circus of football, we then bombed down the A1 and M25 (only slowing down for the motorway police patrol cars that we passed) to aveley knowing that with the towners now 1 point behind corby, a win was the only thing that would do, and after a very promising 30 minutes it looked only a matter of time before we took the lead all one way traffic.

But over the past 3/4 games we have only played for 45 minutes, stamford 2nd half, rothwell 1st half, enfield 2nd half and today 1st half.

Yet again i have to question the substitutions - why take off matty jesus who was having alot of good play down the left for velandia who since turning the game against stamford has been very poor, then nyman who worked hard came off for morgan who never seemed interested from the second he set foot on the pitch, so with 2 subs down and 1 to go and you are looking for the break through what do you do to change the game? thats right you take off a right back and bring on a right back as much as PC is a very good attacking full back i couldn't see him changing the game.

I was pleased to see niall get the full 90 minutes for once despite what seemed to be having to play in 5 different positions during that time. I also felt bryan had one of his better games despite not scoring he never gave up.

Last 3 games we have drawn dropping 6 points, that would have put us top of the table and promoted by now.

How much better off we would have been if we didn't let a certain PBT player who has scored 20+ goals in a struggling team leave.

Our season has been full of what if's though!

Overall the season does not lie, we are where we are because of a really poor home record, the frustration for me comes in the way of lack of continuity in team selection, formations & the use of subs, after what ive seen we are by far, Boreham Wood the exception maybe, the best team in the league with the squad we have got, but lack of a "proper" striker has consistently let us down.

We now need a big bit of that JC luck (he cant have much left after the last two seasons mind)& hope Corby lose a game or its the play-off games for us........AT HOME!

It looks like ETFC are probably going to finish 3rd. So, we can all come on here typing "what ifs". The fact is that we HAVE drawn our last 3 games. What we need to do is to make the best of the situation we are in. The pressure is now off. IF we are in the play-offs then there is alot to be positive about. We still have a chance to go up in our first season. No-one will want to come to Brimmo to play us - we may not have played well recently, but we still haven't been being beaten. We aren't going to get a new striker now. Let's get behind the team who have put themselves in with a shout - we've still got a great opportunity.

I do find it difficult to agree with a muppet; but Gonzo is right!

12 months ago before we had to go to Burnham and win; if we had been told we would be in the plays offs for a place in one of the "premier" leagues we would have grabbed it.

i am sure the players etc are just as pi$$ed off as we are; but we have to get behind the lads and encourage them.

For a club that was in the ESL last season, and is not even 5 years old, I think we are doing ok; yeah like my school reports "could do better in certain areas" applies; but come on heads up, the fat lady is not singing yet

I don't think anyone will disagree with Southport Towner.

ETFC has set high standards within the last five years and we can all be proud of what has been achieved. However, it's the drop in those high standards that is giving cause for concern and it is, unfortunately, at the wrong time of the season.
