Back in the Ryman...

Interesting. Its all speculation but what he suggests does make sense with the one team switching from the Ryman being Wealdstone who would then join Northwood. You have to say that the regionalisation has had a bit of interest at the end of the season as to where everyone might end up.

Also interesting that in that "new" Ryman we would only have 4 trips to Essex.

His prediction does also have the Southern League avoiding any team relegated from the Conference South which seems unfair.

Would we be better off in the south? Have a feeling the Ryman is going to be very strong next season. With the lot that are up there at the moment and Margate and Bromley (with their new manager) possibly throwing silly money at players?

The Ryman will be VERY strong next season I feel. If Fisher stay down, they'll no doubt be spending big again, along with Heybridge, Margate and possibly Bromley as you mentioned, and Chelmsford will have a lot of money behind them too if Jeff King joins them - they'll be one to watch out for. AFC Wimbledon will no doubt also be a good shout for a championship push.

Compare that to the Southern League, which will cost more in travelling, but would probably be a more even league and one where we'd have more chance of survival?

After this season where ultimately I think we have underperformed, I would like to see us moved to the Southern League.

Yes it would mean increased travelling costs but as Matt has said, the likely hood of survival in that league is greater. I guess this has to be balanced with the possibility of progression too, playing in a weaker league any team that gets promoted would be at a disadvantage as their squad would not be used to playing at a higher standard and is possibly more likely to drop straight back down.

All the rumours suggest that after seasons of neglect from the people on Canvey Island (Conference attedances of below 500), he's decided to pull his money out of Canvey and it would appear he is going to be involved in some form at Chelmsford.

Given the fact he was supposed to be putting in around £15k a week at Canvey, even half of that at Chelmsford would make them a serious force to be reckoned with at this level as with success on the pitch, you'd get people back through the gate. They've proven they can get 1k+ crowds in there for normal league games despite it not being the best of stadiums to watch football from, so perhaps he sees more potential there than at Canvey.

I agree that the Ryman league will be stronger and that we might have a better chance in the Southern. But I think I would rather have the bigger crowds and reduced travelling costs that would be associated with the Ryman. Might see us spend more on the playing budget rather than coaches for the players.

It seems the averages are actually favourable compared to our division. But I don't think any increase would offset the cost.

There's still a few issues to be sorted out though, some which could affect our bearing, some which won't.

Scarborough still listed in the Conference - if they don't come out of administration they'll be demoted

Canvey Island - Lost Jeff King's funding, could demote themselves if another backer cannot be found

Altrincham - Will no doubt fight the 18 point deduction

Cambridge City - Still an uncertain future?
