Tend to agree with RK. I thought that today's game was poor and whilst the defence was pretty sound the real reason we came away with a point was Charlie Mitten. Worthing had a number of better chances than us and I thought that Charlie was great. Coming for high balls, fisting at least two dangerous crosses away and two saves at the end, one tipping a point blank shot on to the bar and other blocked down low were out of this world.

No question about man of the match - Charlie Mitten.

I agree with most of the above, particularly GW's list of players needed, to which we should add a GK.

We are not making enough use of Yiga's speed on the right. The long ball should be played into the corner area, so he can get there before the left back and either run it in or cross it in. Some passes were played in that direction but he wasn't anticipating them. Think of Braithwaite at his best.

The lads should work on that in training, because Laurence doesn't have much else to offer. If they are not going to use him thus then Sesay should play on the right, because he can take the ball past defenders into the box. I would like to see him start there.

If Yiga is to play the role he did today, then he could just as easily play on the left, because he plays with his back to the goal and passes back a lot.

Sesay is wasted on the left because he is then forced to turn backwards to cross. True he is good at running it in, but playing him left is taking away the option of quick crosses.

JD wants to concentrate more. He is a good blocker but seems to be in a dream half the time. Prefer Deen there when fit, but would like to keep JD as I think he might come good in the future.

Mitten's reaction block was a lifesaver, but he is not good on crosses.

Protheroe/Keister superb today. I like Deen in midfield, but with those two looking good he will have to play at the back for the rest of the season.

Oates, Standen: good work right and left back. Did Allman pull his hamstring again? Oates got caught upfield a couple of times, probably still getting used to the 4-4-2.

Trotty masterful at left sided centre back. Saved us in the goalmouth scramble. Very hard to choose between him, JK, LP for MOM. Perhaps Lee Protheroe for hitting the bar twice. Edit: no I will go for Keister.

Knight has yet to impress me.

Brayley and Hockton worked well together, no lack of service in my opinion. The oppo's back line was pretty strong and hardly made a mistake for our strikers to capitalise on.

Good defending again by our boys, but I won't say told you so until the end of the season!

[color:"blue"]I think we're in agreement here GW, it'll be interesting to see who goes up front when Bertie is suspended. Tait is just the sort of player I was thinking about - good call.

I still think Andy Ford would be my choice of Manager.

As to Richard's call for 2-2, I think we'd still be there now (nearly 3hours later) waiting for 4 goals. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Alex I think we need 2 out & out strikers. Danny seems to get frustrated when he is leading the line on his own. We need two strong forwards who both know where the goal is. Tait would be perfect. He hasnt been a regular at Canvey so we might be able to sneak in ahead of any Conf south clubs if we keep training at the same location it is now or similar. Definitely not Lawrence up front. It has to be a new signing in attack. Would also like a new keeper. Phil Smith or Danny Potter would be great but although part time they should be able to find higher clubs unfortunately as they are both in my opinion top class. Maybe if Jeff King goes to Chelmsford and takes Potter with him then Gavin King would be available at Chelmsford. He impressed me.

I doubt very much that Smith would return to the Gate. He is quality and surely he would be signed up by a bigger club. Were some of these posters at the same game? I would rank todays game as one of the poorest of the season. We need to start performing. The attendance today was poor and you can see why.

Sorry Richard, can't agree with you there. Crowd was second highest in the division (after AFCW who are a special case). Next highest was less than half our attendance. 7 games were played.

That was a good solid defensive effort against one of the top teams. If you think that was bad, I wonder if you watched some of our earlier debacles this season.

Not great entertainment for the uninitiated it's true. But the attendance is not influenced by the quality of the game is it? Unless they were all clairvoyants.

We have been in a period of 'transition' for such a long time.

We seem to have found a bit of a base line to move forward from, and that is good.

It is somehting I have wanted to see all season, you cannot lay solid foundations if the ingredients are forever churning around in the mixer.
