From today's Herts Advertiser:

A FORMER St Albans City footballer is facing jail after dramatically confessing to rape.

Jay Murray, aged 24, who appeared 26 times for the club in the 2003/04 season, scoring four goals, was working as a postman in Holloway, North London. He would drop off the post to his 25-year-old victim on his daily rounds but one night he returned to her flat shortly after midnight, forced his way in, then viciously beat and raped her in her flatmate's bedroom.

He was due to face trial in two weeks time but after six months of denying the charge and refusing to answer any police questions, he suddenly changed his plea at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday.

Murray, who lives in Tufnell Park, will be sentenced on May 26, but Judge William Kennedy warned him to expect a lengthy jail term.
