Shares in Fleet

Recommended Posts

As a matter of interest, does anyone know how many shares have been issued by the company that runs the Club? Also does anyone have a reliable list of the current shareholders? As this is a private company is there an obligation to offer shares to other existing shareholders first? When was the most recent date that any shares changed hands? Sorry for all the questions, but perhaps between the users of this forum the answers can be disclosed.

KMJ - Very interesting questions about share issues, at a very interesting time, I am not sure the club are the best to ask, as you should direct your question at the real experts.

I believe 2 million shares are available.

As you can imagine the overwhelming majority are in the hands of the directors, but what percentage they hold and their value are up for debate.

If interested I know that 0.15 % are in the safe hands.

47,804 available then. Priced at?

According to the PDF's downloaded from Company House 40,000 shares were purchased by 1 individual for £10,000 a while back so that may give you an idea of what the remaining shares would cost.

That would value the club at £500,000.

The only way to determine the value of the company is to look at the balance sheet.

So one could safely assume the club to be valued higher.

I would be astonished and absolutely delighted, as that would mean that I am making a profit on my shares, when I didn't expect to actually see any of my money back.

My guess is that you are overvaluing by about £499,999, but I missed the shareholders meeting as I was stuck on a non-moving train so I haven't seen the latest accounts.

[edit]
The balance sheet at 31st May 2004 showed Net assets of £72,971. As far as I can tell no shares were issued after that date, so in broad terms, the Net assets as at 31st May 2005 will be £72,971 +/- the profit/loss for the year.

Ah - I was working on the theory that if 40,000 shares cost somebody £10k, then to purchase all 2million would cost £500k.

I've seen many articles using the cost of shares at the time of a company takeover to give a valuation (i.e. 'company a' has bid £'b' per share, giving 'company c' a value of £'z') so wasn't aware of the true method to calculate - just shows how poor those journalists are!

So therefore, using what you have explained, it would mean that it would cost far more to buy the club than what the club is actually worth.

Edit: having said that, I've just read about the shares that cost 5p / shares that cost 25p business, which would further confuse my original calculations anyway!

Was it my day off?

Btw, didn't get the job in Swindon and my current position is under threat looks like this new lot want to carve a bit more off the bone to drive down costs.

That would be true for just about every football club if it wasn't the asset strippers would be in like a shot.
