Trott looks to the future

by Andrew Gidley

Hampton 0 Margate 1

ROBIN TROTT savoured his first three points as caretaker-manager of Margate in the 1-0 win at Hampton on Saturday.

The former Gillingham youngster who has brought in former Priestfield manager Mike Flanagan to help out until the end of the season said: "Things happened very quickly, and I must admit I was a bit starstruck by it all. We had one training session with the boys, so it was a delightful start.

"My main concern is to get to the end of the season, then look back on the five games, see what progression we have made, and stay in the league.

"I thought when I arrived six weeks ago that Margate are a great club, and I’d like to finish my career here.

"Keith Piper asked me to take over, and given me fantastic support since, 100 per cent behind me, and given me everything I have asked for.

"It was shame that Chris went because he was an absolute legend and a lovely fellow, but to be handed the managerial reigns is an absolute privilege "

Trott also hinted that dressing room morale had not been the best recently. He added: I told the players to go out and play with a smile on our face. It’s been so bitter and ratty, The boys have been having a go at each other."

Danny Hockton’s late goal, his 11th in 16 games won the points for Margate, and Trott admitted: "It was a scrappy game on an horrendous pitch. We went 4-4-2, defended well, and nicked a late goal."
