Shortfall in attendances

Have just been doing some sums, based on figures taken from Confguide.

I read somewhere that our expected break even attendance per game was 1250. With 2 games left it looks likely that our average is going to be 1120, give or take a few. Over the 21 league games that equates to about 2750 "missing" supporters. As these missing fans are more than likely going to be "floating" adults, I calculate a season gate receipt shortfall of around £33,000.

Given that we are losing the Dartford rent, have lost any further match sponsorship from Mr Gladwish, and I guess we will have to pay half of the redevelopment work on the Hill end terrace, my question is, can the club actually afford it?

But isn't that a slightly misleading figure, Gary, as the 2,750 missing persons aren't really individuals? In reality, we've lost perhaps 150ish supporters.

In terms of cash shortfall, though, yes, I take your point, it's 2,750 x £12 less money coming through the gate, or £33k as you said.

I guess if we can get a good looking squad signed up for the start of next season, the crowds will turn up again hopefully our missing 150 or so + a few new ones - it it always much nicer to watch football on a balmy summer aternoon or evening than on a cold, bleak, rainy windswept January night.

I did read that the renovations ( or a least one version) would cost in the region of £85,000 of which we had a grant for half - about £43,000.

Added to the £42,000 we would need to find in the summer for the rebuild , Gladwish's contribution (£150,000 over 3.5 years)say, £50,000 + the rent from Dartford (not sure but I suspect aroung £25,000.

To me, the sums simply do not add up. £33K + £42K + £50K + £25K? will leave a blinking big deficit in the club coffers.

Now I am not an accountant, and no doubt the club are watching the accounts carefully, but when you take all these things into consideration, it does leave the average supporter a little worried about our continued status at the top flight of non-league football, regardless of who is managing the team.

I hope I am being overly alarmist, but it is clear to all funding on a big scale needs to be put in place, as it very easy to finances drifting us into peril very quickly.

I think what does not help, is the lack of feedback from the club itself. I have not heard anything positive from the club since the annoucement of looking into building a new stadium.Well looks like all pie in the sky, as can hardly afford this one it seems. If the club had good news. I am sure that they would announce it, or at least leak it, to raise moral.

Ok. It would not hurt for the council to help promote the team. Even some of the stores in the town could put up posters promoting the matches. It seems as if the council is now trying to distance itself from the team. Why don't they become the sponsors for next season?

Because no doubt then the rest of the non supporting public would have a go on spending money on something where it could be a lot better spent - they would be in the scenario of that hospital last year that bought a momento rock for the entrance that cost millions.

fair comment, but considering how many people live in the borough of gravesham, if you took £1 from every adult in the borough, that would certainly pay for a years worth of football, and it would not be waisted, it may actually bring people to see what they are paying for. Oh what a pipe dream.

I hear differently - it's apparently a done deal, regardless of public opinion.

Look in my eyes the council will say if you want to watch the club play, you pay for it at the gate.Did the council not secure Fleet Leisure for the club ?????

They helped but the club did most of the hard work themselves.

Those residents who don't watch Gravesend will be arguably be annoyed if public money is spent on something they see no benefit from.

Private money is the way forward, no doubt the club have things in the pipeline and won't reveal them until the deal is done.

AAhh my mistake then, I was under the impression the council put the £800,000 up, I stand corrected
