How much for Boylan, I wonder?

Recommended Posts

I know a sizeable chunk of our fans 'hate' Canvey but I for one hope they survive this setback.

We need sides like Canvey and Margate in the Conference to give us local derbies that we can go into with a reasonable chance of a win, no jokes about an easy 6 points as their supporters should look at us in the same light, the more of these sides that drop out of the Conference the harder it will be for us.

Probably not a popular post but clubs tend to reach their own level.

1 man or a consortiums money may hide the fact for a while, but in the main you are only as good as how many you get thru the turnstiles.

Despite being old school I hated Canvey.. I loved the fact that despite the cash we went up ahead of the them. They had no tradition, no plan and no chance to progress JK's cash would n't stetch as far.

For the guys that were to young for the Dartford or maidstone rivalry, Canvey were good substitutes and it looks like they are going the same way,

I shed no tear.

From what my sources have said, Jeff King has not stepped down & plans to continue with Canvey - he is just no longer prepared to bank roll the club past the end of this month.

Jeff has paid £9,000 per week from his own pocket and is disappointed with the attitude of the locals & decided enough is enough.

Hmmmmmm 'disappointed with the attitude of the locals'.

Sounds a familiar story.

I am sure if he wanted to sponsor our matches for £468,000 a year I am positive we can let him and have best seat in the stand and a free season ticket. We may even buy a forward.

It gives me no pleasure to say it, but with what is going on at Canvey and Chelsea it denmonstraes that at least we are a ' real ' club ' ie dependant of fans suppoort and not like Canvey and Chelsea ie a play thing of 1 rich individual. whom at a whim can do as he please.

Up the Fleet.

Would like to wish Canvey all the best in their current plight.

While GNFC may not have 1 super-rich benefactor like Canvey (as far as we know), I think it would be fool-hardy too pretend that the cost of full-time football is being covered for by the gate receipts alone. Therefore, we arent a "real" Club. I'm sure we are just as dependant as Canvey, albeit it the costs may be covered by a group of individuals rather than 1 person.

This summer worries me because:

a) Dartford move out (loss of rental income for ground)
B) No major sponsor as yet to our knowledge.
c) The Club need to budget for another season of presumably Full-time football - how you do this given current crowds is beyond me!
d) The terracing behind the goal needs sorting out.

If anybody other than our current Chairman was in the hotseat I'd be seriously concerned!

I'm sorry but we are not like Chelsea. Jeff has been associated with the club for almost 25 years now. He started out as a player for us and when he retired, he eventually became involved financially. He got involved with the running of the club as a businessman with a bit of money and the club has grown alongside his businesses.

He never just came along like Abramovich and said 'Here ya go. Have this lot of money.' He himself built the club from nothing ALONG with his nightclubs and holiday parks.

He worked hard to bring money into the club and didn't just sit around counting his money like some chairmen.

So get your facts right. He built this club from nothing with not much more in his pocket and managed it well enough to get us and himself where we are now.

What Wobbly meant was the fact that 1 individual bankrolling a club can lead to problems.

He never said that anybody said 'Here ya go. Have this lot of money.'

What Jeff King built can also be broken by withdrawing his cash, if nobody else comes along.

Hmmmmm, just like Ambramovich could do to Chelsea.

Yup, agree with all of that.

Not forgetting, of course, that a fee would be required as he is under contract for next season.

As Jim says, we shouldn't act all superior about this, since our attendances alone clearly can't sustain full-time football. Indeed, the model Jim mentioned, of a club being financially supported by a group of investors rather than just one, will be followed by Canvey next season it seems, as FF suggested:
