We are Margate and We are Back

What a win, what a performance and what an answer to the goings on over the last 4 days. Today we looked organised, everyone knew what there job was, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves out there and everyone played well. However Yiga was not at his best today and looked out of position and when Sesay replaced him Sesay was looked very eager and wanted every ball. Great goal from Danny Hockton with a dinky little chip over the keeper after being one on one with him. Spencer Knight was very good offering us width and a very good passer of the ball. The whole TEAM played as a TEAM and deserved the win. The first-half we were good but we did not look like winning and in the second-half we wanted it more then them and by george didnt get the win. Well Robin Trott and Well done Gate. UP THE GATE!!!!!

I told you we should have done the 'mental' one, Alex. But I thought the conga was very appropriate, at the time.

But I swear the cheering after the goal went on the longest I have ever heard.

Hampton were not as good as their position in the league suggests - they were very windy at the back when we were on the attack. I always get a good feeling when I hear the opposition arguing amongst themselves.

I think the team really appreciated the support today, and we did have a very noticable presence, which was great to see.

It was a well-disciplined game too, no cards, few fouls, and the ref was very good.

Lovely sunny day, and I did not need my coat until the end. And then the warmth of Sesay's delighted smile to be on the pitch fended off any late spring chill.

I take my hat off to Flanigan, who had learnt all the lad's names in a very short time, and was giving very positive directions from the bench. The physio looked very switched on, too.

Well done to all the team today, a fine feel-good match, and we've gained a place in the table.

[color:"blue"]To be honest I'd have thought 0-0 would have been a fairer result but I'm not complaining! Danny's goal was well taken, he'd missed a similar chance earlier in the half but took the second chance sweetly. Bertie looks out of sorts up front .. but we don't have another striker on the books. Lawrence had a quiet game and should have made way for Sesay about 20mins earlier - I think he'd have murdered them down the right flank but wasn't given enough time to shine <perhaps swapping Lawrence with Bertie might work better>.

Lee Protheroe was tireless & commanding in midfield, and is a 'must have' for next season. Spencer Knight was the 'surprise choice' in the starting line-up & gave us plenty of width down the left flank especially in the second half.

Defensively we looked sound and worked well together and even the distraction of introducing Donovan when Hasim came off with a knock (I hope he's back for next weekend) didn't upset us though H&R weren't really that threatening.

3 points ... A good conclusion to the week.

Chuffed with the 3 points. A real workmanlike and ground out win. Keister, Protheroe, Trott and Hockton shone. Spencer Knight gave us much needed balance and width down the left. Sesay looked really motivated when he came on and was classy with the few touches he had - would love to see him get a little longer next week. First class set up and we looked like a professional outfit with the new coach, physio and the warm up. Lots of talking, solid defending, structured football. Thank you Robin Trott and 4-4-2 is what we like to see. Glad you selected exactly the team I wanted to see (check earlier thread on formations)!

There should be no quarter given to chavs.
Hampton looked like a pleasant, family club, and we were all there for a good day out, so their behaviour should have, as was, censured. I thought the Hampton steward, and his dog, were lovely.

Banjo says hello...

Well done for yesterday - thought Margate looked very solid - thought it was going to end 0-0 (which would have suited us given the other results) but your forward finished cooly in the end.

Can only apologise for you having to put up with those three spotty individuals in the first half. They won't be welcome back at Hampton - it's the first time I've seen them there and never seen them at an away game...

Your support was excellent and you are welcome back at The Beveree anytime.
Good luck for the rest of the season.

Keith, you have a great club, and I sincerely wish you luck for the rest of the season, You deserve a play-off place at least for the way your team has performed this season.

If you are unlucky enough not to go up this year, returning to visit you again will be one of my high spots next year.

Plus, I will bring Banjo a bonio!
