It's all about chances

The trouble is ,we are not in agreement anymore.People like Steph,Brunob,Father Jack,Arkwright, seem to be seeing the game totally differently to people like myself,THM,Mr Happy,Gazza,Old Towner..etc

We are all watching the same games.we all see the same things happening on the pitch. How can our views vary so much?

The thing is, they only vary and clash over one player. In the case of every other player,we all seem to agree as to whether they have had good games or not.

Strange!

I don't see the point coming on a forum open to not just Towners to whinge about who's fault it was we didn't win on Saturday. Especially when some of the players will read it as well.

I still maintain that when Bryan and Trevor are in top form, they are assets to the team.Unfortunalty this season they have made at least four or five bad passes/shots/challenges for every one good one.If you think otherwise you are deluding yourselfs.

No. It's known as 'having a different opinion' and is still legal in the UK

Brian and Trevors track record indicates that these are two good players with success at our level. However, they have just not worked out for us. Both have shown some glimpses of what they are capable of but neither have shown any consistency.

Now, that's my legal opinion!!!

We're second in the league. We've scored more goals and conceded fewer, I think, than everyone bar Boreham Wood (can't be bothered checking). That wouldn't have happened if we only had 10 effective players instead of 11 every game. We attack as a team, we defend as a team. Just because the 'striker' isn't scoring, doesn't mean he isn't contributing.

Saturday's loss of points wouldn't have happened if Trevor had taken the chance, but 2-0 should have been ample. If we're going to cast blame I'd put it at one part bad finishing to two parts stupid turnovers in the middle of the park.

I didn't mention their lack of goals. I was talking about their general performances and lack of consistency. The blame for Saturday has top be put down to two things. A poor substitution followed by a very poor miss.

We are second in goals scored. It would be interesting to see a chart of 'goals scored-to-chances created'.Because in my eyes we have created so many openings this season, but only converted a small percentage of them.

Just think how many one-on-ones with the keeper we have balled-up this season.Converting a higher percentage of those alone, would have seen up about 15 points better off at this stage.

The one on one scenario is a perfect example of the frustration I believe the fans feel, this could be purely down to confidence of certain players.

If we get a penalty, I have every confidence in Rudi converting it, even if the keeper goes the right way it is struck so well he has no chance,

the same cannot be said of either Bryan or Trevor in front of goal, I never feel confident & they dont look confident.

My biggest frustration is that the management team seem to persevere with certain players & randomly change others.

Hammet and Paul are both good players. Top premiership strikers miss chances so its no suprise that Southern League players miss chances.

Both players seem to lack of confidence at times the way for fans to help there confidence is to appreciate that both try and both have the ability to do well for the town.

It hardly seems a good time to be picking fault with players.

Our position in the league shows JC knows what he's doing.

Yes, we are not in a position to "complain" are we. 2nd in the League with points in the bag.

Three more wins and we are up in back to back seasons, which would be fantastic for ANY team, let alone one that is only 5 years old.

However, that does not mean the supporters cannot comment or complain about tactics and Players being used who are, without doubt, low on confidence.

This thread is about taking chances and IF we had taken some of the chances mentioned by supporters we would be a few points nearer our goal.

Tactically, I think we should question "some decisions" like the use of Players and the timing of substitutions.

There can be little doubt that on Saturday Trevor Paul missed a chance considered easy by normal standards at this level and Jim's failure to "slow the game" with substitutions in the final 2 minutes was very costly.

I am sure all supporters will be 100% behind the team on Saturday and indeed for the rest of the season, BUT, we can still have opinions of players and tactical awareness by the Management Team. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/boxing.gif" alt="" />

Exactly OT, there is no doubt what so ever that all Town fans give a 110% to the team, but this IS a forum where the fans get to air their views & express their thoughts & this thread is about taking chances, remember the FA Cup tie at clarence park? with the score at 0-0, 6 yards out, and an open goal....cue blazing shot over the bar, end result 3-0 to St. Albans, now what diffrence would that chance being taken made? Just like Saturday......a vast diffrence.

But you can also say that it is their ability that gets them into the positions in the first place wether they convert the chances or not.

I think that we cant complain too much, i mean how many town fans would have predicted that we would be in the top 2 for most of the season and with 3 games left be very close to promotion.

i for one at the start of the season would have been more than happy with a top half finish - play off place at best.

I for one want top two at the end of the season (call me greedy if you like). We might just have to settle for a playoff place but I hope we can retain the second place - Let's not let Corby steel it now.

Sure, based on how well we've done this season it will be a shame for us to throw it away now but i'm sure corby will not win all there last 4 games, and we must be very poor to not get 6 points from berko & aveley. Its in our hands only we can throw it away and have ourselves to blame if we fail.
