I prefer silence, more traditional. However for football, a clap can sometimes be good as well a la George Best.

IMO a clap can work when 60,000+ are participating otherwise a minutes silence is more respectful.

Silence is alot more respectful than applause I think, theres more to be said in a mans silence than applause, and takes more control. I think the applause was bought in because you always get one or two who speak out during a minutes silence.

 

Saying that, this game is more of a memorial game than a game after someones death, so why not celebrate his life instead, I don't think a minutes whatever will matter, because it'll all be done in the day, the match, the auctions, all the effort, the respect for the man will be there, without needing specified time to prove it.

Just to let you know that this is one of the issues we'll be considering as we approach the big day. Needless to say we will carefully consider Carly's feelings in what we decide suggest people should do. In any case, I have no doubt that everyone will show their appreciation in great style.
