Mike Flannigan

Robin Trott has appointed Mike Flannigan as his assistant, Mike will join the squad for tomorrows match and will be with us to the end of the Season.

Anybody know anything about him? Can't seem to find anything on him... Is he a player Trott used to play with? Or is he an experienced assistant manager?

That's not the guy who played for Charlton is it?

He also played for us in the early 1980's as I recall.

Playing career including Crystal Palace, QPR, Charlton. Think he also managed Charlton before Curbishley, managed Gillingham from 93-95 and managed Waterford United until 2001. Commanded a £50,000 fee in 1980 when he was sold to QPR by Crystal Palace. Was a striker. I believe Trotty played for Charlton as a youngster and at the time Flanagan might just might have been manager. I guess the link has to be somewhere.

Mike Flanagan was on the coaching staff at Charlton when he played for them in a testimonial game for Joe Radford in 1990 (from memory). He left Charlton very shortly afterwards and we signed him as a player when he was around 35. He scored a great goal on his debut but wasn't exactly popular with the fans after that and our then manager Steve McRaye got a bit upset with some teenage supporters who suggested Mike wasn't up to it ! Whatever happened to those young supporters...

Think Mike had a spell in charge at Gillingham around the time that Robin would have been there - their Billericay spells were over a decade apart.

If Robin now appoints Bill Roffey and Karl Elsey to his coaching staff I reserve the right to panic.

So what has Flanagan been doing for the last 10 years or so? I am assuming he was in management or coaching roles somewhere otherwise why appoint him? Still its only for 5 games initially so I'll see what happens before I start to panic as well Jeff. (Yes those Roffey and Elsey days were awful but entertaining nonetheless!)

[color:"blue"]If it's Mike Flanagan who played for QPR, then yes he did partner Clive Allen. Can remember the 'amusing' pictures in the Sun & Mirror with them dressed in the fur coat & turned up hats.

Got this off "google". Is the the same Mike Flanagan? I assume it is judging by other posts.

HALES RELIVES FLANAGAN PUNCH-UP

09 Apr 2005

Former Charlton Athletic striker Derek Hales has described the on-pitch fight between Newcastle's Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer as "inexcusable"

Hales was sent off 26 years ago along with teammate Mike Flanagan following a punch-up in an FA Cup match at Maidstone United, which ended in a humiliating draw.

Speaking to The Times, the played nicknamed "Killer" said: “It’s inexcusable what they did, just as it was with me, Something must have gone on beforehand. I don’t suppose they’re the best of friends,”

Hales, who scored 168 goals in 368 league and cup matches for the Addicks was sacked three days later, but was later reinstated and fined by the club.

“I was seen as the nasty one,” he said, “They had to reinstate me because they couldn’t do it by law.”

I think that you may find that if you check records CK was playing for Maidstone United in that game
