Why are we playing on Good Friday?

Recommended Posts

I ask that question as Southend United are playing the sameday against Gillingham in what should be a 10,000+ crowd. Where as Canvey are not likely to get more than 500 for the game against Kidderminster played on the sameday.

Common sense would say play the Kidderminster game on Easter Saturday which may well add on another 200-300 people who would want to go to both games.

There are still a lot of people outthere who follow both teams and the club should look to cater for these people who can make a big difference to the gates.

The size of Canvey's gates is becoming a big concern but Canvey don't help themseleves sometimes when they play the sametime as Southend. Even kicking off in the evening on Good Friday would be better.

A very good question. Do the Conference fixture makers tell you that a certain game has to be played on a specific day, therefore taking the decision out of the clubs hands or do you have some leeway with changing dates of fixtures?

Certainly doesn't make sense to play the same day as Sarfend, especially with them flying high at the moment and it will undoubtedly decrease our gate on the day to yet another miserable embarressing figure with the fixtures clashing as they do.

I quite like football on a Good Friday and I'm sure the club moved this game to Friday before Southend decided to move theirs.

Traditionally we have usually played our Easter fixtures on Good Friday.
