Billy's testimonial

Bearing in mind that it is unlikely that a new manager will use the sweeper system where does this leave Bill for next season? Possibly looking for a new club I would think. He deserves his testimonial game after all it was meant to happen before now. With the pitch being dug up in the summer and many of us coming to terms with a possible groundshare would it not be possible to fix it up for July??? even at this late stage? It would be a shame for a long serving player to see a testimonial shelved.

I doubt it will happen now. And, let's face it, he won't be the first long-serving player to depart without a testimonial (Tony Dixon etc).

My understanding is that Billy and CK are very good mates. I would imagine he will leave in the summer and hook up with CK at his new club (that is if the directors don't reconsider there obscene decision!!)

Billy told me it will be in August this year. He is already organising it. Think he will stay.

Let's hope so. It's just that I remember his testimonial was earmarked for August last year but the ground wasn't ready.

I really do hope that Bill does get a testimonial. As mentioned elsewhere there have been several players who have deserved one over the last few years. I have been watching the club for 22 years and have only known one testimonial - Wayne Godden's in '86 against Maidstone. There was a crowd of about 150-200 despite his brother, the then West Brom Custodian, Tony and I think a couple of other professionals playing.

I personally blamed this at the time on the fact that Eric Delve was having some sort of preaching/religious madman event in a tent on Tivoli Park on the day, but it probably had no effect on the attendance!!

If memory serves, Billy wanted to retire at the end of last season but was convinced to stay on for one more.
