Summer Fundraisers

So we are approaching the summer break (Thank God), nows the time to think of ways to make money for the club.

What about a 5/6/7 a side (using half a pitch) football tournament to be held at stonebridge road? To be held on one day?

Or a larger scale one in the form of the World Cup format where group games are held over a day and then semi's and that are held at Stonebridge Road?

With entry of say £20 a team, + a small entrance fee for supporters + refreshments from the burger van a bit of dosh could be made.

Also what about each side getting a first team player?

Thoughts and other comments would be appreciated

I guess the best ways of supporting the Club over the Summer are:

1) Buy a Season Ticket(s).

2) Watch the World Cup Games at Fleet Leisure (formerly Beauwaters). Aside from the World Cup Games, its got a good bar, snooker table and if enough people turn up we could even have a kick-about outside.

On a similar note, its been mentioned on here before that the Club can't afford another striker of the quality of Charlie Mac. Is there any scope in another Player Pledge scheme, with the money raised specifically going towards another quality striker. Just a thought!

Was just thinking that now we have the Fleet Trust with 200+ members - many are probably season ticket holders/seasoned campaigners. If every trust member was to donate £50 that would be 10K in itself.

Alternatively, why don't the Club ask for 25 people to come forward and donate 1K to cover the cost of that elusive Quality frontman.

Surely its better to pay 50K+ for a quality striker than 25K for an ordinary striker?

Roly says in his programme notes its all about finances which is fair enough but if the Board can't afford to subsidise another top striker (I appreciate they are doing a good job, throwing their money at the Club and hearing nothing but grumbles for it - a labour of love?), why not ask other people to come forward and pledge "smaller" amounts to cover the extra wages of a top striker.

Sorry to go on - the point I'm trying to make is that I'm sure money could be found for the signing of another quality striker - it just requires some organisation.

For me, last night showed why we need another quality striker, if we are to move forward at this level. We more than matched them most of the game but their finishing was clinical.

P.S. Thought the money from the original player pledge went towards paying Adrian Pennocks wages - shows how much/little I know!

As someone who contributed , I thought that as well.

I gladly handed over money during our first and second season in the conference as it didn't take a genius to see that we were ill equipped commercially to compete with the big boys.

Now we have been here a few years I would have hoped we would be more adept at raising funds / sponsorship and player pledges would not be required.

We only have a few hardcore fans and you can't keep going back to the same well.

Exploration of other wells is the key.

Yes it did pay for Rob Howarth and Ade Pennock.

We recently tried a new pledge, and raised just over £200 , I think to expect people to keep stumping up, when it is usually the same people who have season tickets, travel to away games, work at the ground during the summer etc etc is asking a bit much. It is not about Trust members it is about supporters of GNFC, even those who live away and do not come to games. If everyone of even our lowest gate of just over 600 gave £20 we would raise a large amount. Do not want to be negative but Trust members already pay an annual fee, many pay subscriptions and the Trust pays a standing order to the club on a monthly basis, apart from paying for the new tannoy etc.

I think this problems is one we all need to address.

That said:

I would be more than happy to pay my £20, and arrange for collection of money from fans at the ground, just get the ball rolling, start by spreading the word on Easter Monday and hope that the fans are still willing to support the club.

I did give some money at the start of this season when they announced another pledge but I have given more, and am happier giving it, to the sponsor a goal scheme.

I think this could maybe be pushed harder next year, the people I stand with, some of whom give an awful lot more to the club than I can afford to, where unaware of the scheme. An advert in the programme and an anouncement over the tannoy at each game could see a lot more people sign up for it next season and just £1.00 a goal per person would mount up to serious money if we can get 300 plus people to agree to it.

Everyone wants to see the Fleet score more goals and I am sure a lot of people will be happy to pay for it particularly as the payments can be spread out over the season as the goals are scored rather than having to find it all in one lump.

Fans Focus hasn't got the capacity on its servers if mikefleet starts listing all of those...
