Tops fella. I am in Basildon too tomorrow and will take a few around the shops there for display.

I think Basildon is a hugely untapped area of support for Canvey - only a 20 odd minute drive away from the ground and buses that come straight past the ground. Must be loads of potential fans there I would have thought.

potential chavs too

Excellent Paddy, most constructive indeed. Do you think that there are not "Chavs" everywhere these days? The whole of the country and indeed society is full of "Chavs" now and the whole point of this debate here is why we cannot attract Canvey "Chavs" and their like into Park Lane for matches.

I live in Basildon and have done for 17 years now (though I still consider myself to be a Londoner, having lived in Stepney, East London for 30 years and being born and bred there) and whilst it is hardly God's gift to the world, Canvey Island is hardly a paradise either is it?

The fact is that Basildon is a hugely untapped area for Canvey Island to draw fans from if the club marketed itself properly in the area and that is a fact. To dismiss Leo's suggestion of putting ads in shop windows in the area as you have is crass, unhelpful and frankly does you no credit at all.

After years of following Spurs home and away, I love going to Canvey along with my daughter and am a season ticket holder at the club and oh yes, neither of us could remotely be described as being "Chavs" nor displaying "Chavlike" tendencies in any way. There must be many like us who would love to come along to Park Lane from Basildon and be prepared to undertake the 20 minute drive to do so. Perhaps the club if it is serious about getting people into the ground should look into this option, it would not do any harm to "speculate to accumilate" in Basildon and I think it would certainly pay dividends by increasing attendances for sure.
