Exciting new signing>......

There was a full page article in NLP on Sunday concerning Lee Gledhill leaving full-time football at Barnet F.C. He's 22, a right-back, been with Barnet since he was 16, captained their youth team, last week at Woking was his 68th start for the Club, has started more than half their games this season.

He's leaving to train for an alternative career but would like to continue to play part-time, ended his full-time contract at his own request etc. etc.

Robbo was probably reading it over his roast beef on Sunday and thought "Now there's an idea", made contact and the rest is history.

I read the same article and thought hmmmm good full back, need a full back, lives local.... lets try and sign him, then I thought no 22yr old former full time pro will want to drop to this level he'll stay part time in the conference. How wrong I was, how glad I am

PS Heres the said article cut and pasted from the net!

GLEDHILL BIDS FAREWELL - 15/11/2002

Lee Gledhill said his farewells to the Barnet players at the training ground on Tuesday after his contract was terminated at his request by the Nationwide Conference club to allow him to pursue a full-time career outside football.

Gledhill (pictured), 22, told both chairman Tony Kleanthous and manager Peter Shreeves of his wish to end his career as a full-time pro. Both tried to persuade him to stay, but without success.

The Bury-born player will play part-time alongside his new career, but has signed an agreement that he or any club wanting to sign him will contact Barnet if he returns as a full-time pro.

Gledhill's appearance for the Bees at Woking on Saturday was his 68th in the first team, 10 as substitute, and he ends a six years association at Underhill as a trainee and full time professional.

Gledhill said:"I want to pursue other interests before I am 30 and also be a part-time player. I may go into the futures market with a family friend but nothing is signed and sealed yet. I am, though, looking forward to embarking on a new career".

Shreeves said: "We are all disappointed to see him go and wish him well in the future".

Kleanthous said: "The club wishes to record thanks to Lee for all that he has done here. His spirit and attitude to the game is something that will be missed.

"I would like to thank the chairman and manager for helping me through this decision. It has all been amicable," Gledhill ended

Well done EFMTFTV.

So my memory isn't too bad then!

It's interesting how many of those posting above don't read it.

[One more thing E-V. Webbo. Between us we've been to every Saints game this season. I've missed one, he's been to one.]
