MOTM V Aldershot

Recommended Posts

There must be games when the teams overall performance is that bad that the decision is made that nobody deserves to pick up the man of the match award??

In my view today was very much like that. Yes, there were some average performances but sadly I don't think that any one single player stood-out to such an extent that they deserved to receive the award.

Only one for me. For his constant threat and unpredictability to the fleet defence and his postioning for the 2nd and third goal . It has to be mr Gooding

And Aldershot fans didn't rate him that highly yesterday, either.

I think MOTM should have gone to the young steward who had the unenviable task of telling people at the Northfleet end to move their feet back 6 inches behind the yellow line that was not visible ! All because the Fire & Safety mob were carrying out an inspection !!

Yes...yes....I know it has to be done, if only to justify their existance......but it's still a loan of b*llocks !

Regards,

The matter of the selection of the Man of the Match award yesterday was, I have to admit, a difficult one given the scoreline and the lack of shooting opportunities/ midfield enterprise and some defensive lapses. I have no idea how the MotM is generally chosen, but I can give a direct explanation of yesterday's selection. I was the host for 11 guests of my employer who sponsored the Aldershot game. I was determined to make the choice as democratic as possible and everyone had a free vote and the player with the most votes was selected. This was Danny Slatter who earned 4 votes. The panel of selectors consisted of a mixture of regular, very occasional and first time visitors to the Fleet. The only brief was to vote for a home player. In the circumstances I believe that the choice was both a fair and uncontroversial one. I would be interested to hear from anyone else who has ever selected the MotM award at a Fleet match.

Jay Saunders at Morecambe.

I think the man of the match for yesterday nomination was some kind of sponsors 'April fools'.

Who was your choice? Given how no-one was at the top of their game on Saturday, Slatter was probably no better or worse a choice than most of the other players.

Jay Saunders - We only played in the first half and so did he, which was no coincidence.

I thought Jay pulled the strings and made things happen. The difference was all to see when he went off.

I don't like putting players down on here, and am a big Slats fan. But I thought that was one of his worst performances in a Fleet shirt.

But as you say, there was not much to choose from.

A fair point about Jay. As for Slatter, while his end product was sometimes lacking in the runs he made with the ball, at least he looked more likely than most to make something happen offensively in the second half.
