Daish has got to go!

Recommended Posts

I just assume, probably wrong, that Daish has been given more money to spend than anyone else.

I read something on the Fleet that said we were paying players full time wages in the sixties. Anyone confirm? Dave, Lord Chas?

Even if we were paying full time wages back then it wouldn't have been higher than it is now (no s*** Sherlock).

Okay so that isn't a transfer budget but without knowing how much we spent on each player that Daish has signed we won't know whether he spent more than anyone else.

I think like others I may have confused players wages with " transfer budget". Of course it is a very rare red letter day when the Fleet actually pay another club a transfer fee for a player. Our approach has long been to attract unattached players and loan signings as we cannot afford transfer fees. As a matter of interest when was the last time the Fleet signed a player where 1. a fee was involved; 2. the fee was actually disclosed?

Possibly Kevin Budge?

Or was it the multipack of Monster Munch and dog-eared copy of The Lighthouse Family's Greatest Hits we paid for 'Lightning' Gary Abbot?

James Smith? Admittedly, though, the details of the fee (£2,000 up front, with a potential further £3,000 on top depending on appearances) were a little sketchy.

What he needed was a number 2 to replace Ade. Someone in the Ade mould. ie a not long retired league player wanting to take the first steps in management, and decent contacts in the proffessional game.

Stuart Cash, formerly at Aldershot, was being lined up as Andy's assistant just before he left, of course.

Indeed - it's certainly a major shame that Andy was never given the chance to manage with a full-time budget that he craved. Not that I'm saying that the club should have gone full-time earlier; far from it. But I'm sure the fact that we began to go full-time relatively soon after Andy's departure was a major frustration to him.

One could infer from the statements from both club and manager at the time that the whole thing arose out of a misunderstanding that could have been avoided, and it's a major regret of mine that Andy wasn't able to carry on the job he was doing, after so many years (in managerial terms) of distinguished service to the club.

I was thinking along the same lines as JC that as far as I can remember James Smith is the only player that Liam has paid a fee for.

I can see Harry that you may have confused wages budget with transfer budget but I still san't see why you would assume that Liam has been given a huge budget when, although I have absolutely no knowledge of what the budget is, all the evidence points to it not being very much.

It is very simplistic to assume that all full-time players are paid more than all part-time players, better players command bigger salaries as do more experienced players so no surprise to see that we are replacing experienced part-timers with young inexperienced full-timers. Also the number of players we get in on loan, and again with no knowledge of the contribution we pay of their wages, would lead me to believe that we have not made large sums available to Liam.

I am sure that Liam was aware before he joined that there was no bottomless pit and that little or no money would be available for transfers so I am not in anyway trying to make excuses for the recent performances but I don't see any evidence of money being wasted on a grand scale.

The issue is value fo money

If Mr Diash has x nuumber of pounds for a player to include tranfer fee and salary , he is more likley to attract a player whos club wnats to move him on ig he can offer a higher wage to that player. The transfer fee then goes down. And if a club accept that , then the likelihood is that the club will want to offload him

Hence we are getting overpaid crud

Fleet boss points to inexperience

Gravesend & Northfleet boss Liam Daish felt that inexperience was the cause of some disappointing defending as they were beaten 3-0 by Aldershot.

But the Fleet boss explained: "We had a lot of young players out there, and not a great deal of experience.

"Sometimes they can switch off - one player has been honest and held his hand up, and I can't ask any more.

"It's all part of their experience - it's all about how you react to it, whether they sink or swim."

Daish's comments given to BBC...

You signed all these players without the experience Liam....You picked the team.
