I personally didnt want to lose 90% of your present team, but what I meant was that Derek, im my opinion, is a very influencial character. Just for the hel of it, I wouldnt like to lose Richard Evans either. He's a great guy to have about and always plays his best, appears in 99.9% of the games and plays because he loves the game. He doesnt give the impression that he's only in it for the money, which I would say was is quite lucky really!!

No I was actually quite serious. I agree with what LSoK saya about him having a temper but he was also a good defender and scored a couple!

The vultures, as I stated on a previous post on a different thread to this one, are circling... waiting to see what tasty morsels they might be able to pick off. These are things that should have been considered earlier - the longer that the club goes without playing, and the longer that the players go without being paid, the more likely it is that they'll get fed up with sitting around doing nothing on a Saturday afternoon, when they could be earning a very handy two or three hundred quid playing for Bedford, Chelmsford or whoever. <p>Just a quick question, though... the club may well have been suspended from playing in the league, but I can only assume that they haven't been suspended as members of the league yet. Where do we stand contractually on these players? I know fully well that many of them are non-contract players, for one thing, and I'm also aware that obviously, over the last few weeks, the club has failed to honour one of the most basic tenets of an employment contract - to pay it's staff. Having said that, however, are the players allowed to up sticks and leave before the club is formally wound up? If So-and-so Town and Whoever City are sniffing around picking off whichever City players they like, are we not entitled to any sort of transfer fee, regardless of our current perilous condition? Or is there some bizarre law preventing clubs close to extinction from cashing in on what are, certainly in our case, the only remaining assets of any potential value? In other words... is the transfer embargo outgoing, as well as incoming? <p>So far as I can see, if any current players wish to leave the club, then... okay, I can understand why they should want to go. But, if Bedford Town, for example, want to get their hands on an entire Ryman League squad (or a proportion thereof) in order to dig themselves out of their relegation hole (and this season's City team would definitely be able to do that), then they should pay transfer fees - and true market value prices, rather than "End-Of-Club-Everything-Must-Go" prices, as happened at Crystal Palace a few years ago who they were in trouble (and, disgracefully, the Football League looked the other way).<p>If, as the rotund Enfield Town fan has implied, City could be saved for 25000.00 pounds (laughable, but there we go), why not sell the best players, and pay off the club's football debts that way around? Nahhh... there's something blatantly obvious that I'm missing here, but I can't quite figure out what it is...

Oh, and by the way, Enfield boy... Clarence Park is part of a public park, and won't ever be used for redevelopment. Because of the terms under which Clarence Park was donated to the people of St Albans, idea of a quarter of Clarence Park being used for office space in five years time is about as plausible as Enfield being invited to build a new stadium in a space under the housing estate where the Southbury Road ground used to be. <p>Really, guys... we shouldn't be taking advice on what to do with Clarence Park from an Enfield fan (or should that be THE Enfield fan - **** , I can nvever resist that dig...) - we'd be better off taking advice on investment from Nick Leeson, or advice on how to run a prosperous football club from Tony Lazarou or Lee Harding...<p>Also, I appreciate fully the irony of EFC fans taking the p*ss out of us over our attendances... Truth be told, Enfield would happily sell their souls to Old Nick for the 200-odd that turned up for this year's match against them at the Park, and I won't even comment on their claim that they outnumbered us... my mum always taught me that if you can't say anything nice, you shouldn't say anything at all. For the record, we save our decent crowds for big clubs - for some reason, Enfield aren't much of a draw any more...

Personally I think that the loss of Derek Brown is a real shame. He was a good player, playing in what was just becoming an extremely effective back line and was, as anyone who's talked to him will know, committed to doing well at City. On e of the nicest guys at the club in my experience. With what's going on, who can blame him for looking for a game and a regular pay packet? It's not like any of the players walked out as soon as things got ropey - it's to their credit they lasted as long as they did.<p>That said, the fact that a few of the players have moved on means that the position is now critical. If this mystery new offer comes to nothing as well, how much longer is the league going to give us the benefit of the doubt? And what chance of getting the guys out on loan back? In short, if we haven't moved on by the time we are supposed to play Billericay, just where on earth do we go from there? Sorry to sound so pessimistic, but is there actually anything on the table at the moment? <p>As someone once famously said - the despair I can handle, it's the hope I can't stand (or something like that).
