Last saturday...

Recommended Posts

...it may seem like a random thing to talk about, but last saturday when we scored, it felt almost like it did many years ago with the old club; the roar of the crowd, and even a "rush" forward by a dozen or so supporters to celebrate with the players. At one point, there wasn't any space to stand in the terracing behind the goal - admiittedly because it was raining. But nonetheless, our support IS picking up slowly but gradually.

It's been spoken about in another thread, but more covered terracing is desperately needed if we going to progress and attract more supporters.

The terracing behind the goal has an official capacity of 300, the seating on the side has a capacity of 150, and the Bus Shelter has a capacity of no more than a 100.

So if we have a crowd of over 600, and it pisses down with rain, many supporters are literally going to be left out in the rain. And if it happens to be a new supporter who's stuck in the rain, then it's fair to say they won't be encouraged to come back, regardless of the peformance on the pitch.

Does anyone know the official capacity of the ground as a whole?

Please, don't take this post critically. I know full well the strides we have taken, and the cost and labour it's going to take to further the facilities (which in my opinion are already better than a lot of non-league stadia). It really is such an honour to be able to watch our club in our borough.

Oh, and as was said in another thread regarding the labour side of ground work - I would be more than happy to donate some of my time to help out with any aspects, obviously when I'm not at work. I don't often get to see the website and usually head straight to these boards, but I read the Advertsier regularly, and an official request would surely attract many helpers.

Just my two penneths worth.

Roll on saturday... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I think my honourable friend will find that their was a publication on sale last week which answered all of the above (with the possible exception of current capacity - circa 2800)

I will sell you a copy if you wish?

I think the answer is that yes we all want cover at The Railway End; but until we do the work we HAVE TO DO,it remains on the wish list.

Robson, regarding the reaction when Niall scored that screamer last Saturday, I made similar comments to my son at the time, it was great to be packed into the stand enjoying that goal, your right, the crowds are getting larger & long may it continue.

I wonder how the capacity of 2800 is worked out? Without terracing it is only reasonable to assume the crowd is one person deep along the rail. For the sake of argument let's say the rail is 200m x 100m, total length 600m. Allowing everyone 500mm space this gives 1200 people. But you have to subtract the bits in front of the stands - say 100m = 200 people, giving a total of 1000. Add the capacity of the two stands, 150+300=450, total 1450.

The whole ground criteria is ludicrous in my opinion. How many Step 3 clubs have crowds anywhere near the minimum requirements? How many Conference clubs come to that. The money the egotists at the FA force clubs to spend on pointless stands could be better spent elsewhere - playing football, including the women and youth sections. It;s time the FA realised they are our servants, not our masters.

Phew! End of rant........... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

But the taller ones (me) can look over the heads of the smaller ones (Mary A), so you could have two or three deep and still let people see most of the game.

At least they can see a senior game in the borough from their windows. Even the Hbble telescope wouldn't see all the way to Ware. Over the hill and far away. Very apt, sums it up!
