Supporter's player of the year

Now is the time of year when we are asked to select our player of the season. This year in particular it is a very hard choice. Last year seemed to be easier and Rudi Hall deservedly won the honour. This year his disciplinary record must count against him.

So who should it be?

I am going to put a plug in for Al James Hannigan. He has only played 8 games for us this season but he has rarely put a foot wrong and his experience has been particularly valuable for a relatively young side. He has clearly been the captain on the field of play and can stiffened the back line, which was needed after the deplorable display at Potters Bar. It is my view without him The Towners would not be challenging for second place and could have been easily struggling to hold on to a play off position.

So I will leave my vote until the very last minute but if he continues to perform as he has done in his games for the club he will get my vote.

I voted for Niall Ritchie as he has been the key figure in our attacking formation and without whom things have not looked quite right. If big Al had come on board a month earlier I might well have voted for him. As it is I don't think he has played quite enough to earn the award.

I have looked at the stats page and Al James has played 9 and of these 9 we have won 7 and drawn only 2. (His debut and last Saturday) In the process we have only conceded 3 goals.

During January February and March we have played 19 games and won 9 drawn 4 and lost 6 conceding 17 goals.

That is why I think that he has had the most influence on the club - certainly in the final run in and deserves to be considered as player of the year. Of course it may not be entirely down to him and statistics prove nothing but his influence cannot be ignored.

nah i dunno i think Baldwin has played ok. I think at times he has not had a fair run but i dont think hes shone like last year. As you said in other threads we need to pick the best player in the position but im not sure hed force out al or david

If he'd played more regularly I bet he would have shone. I remeber walking into the bar at Wivenhoe in the early part of the season with the Hat only to find Steve and Paul Campbell sitting there having a beer. Those two guys were arguably our best players alst season, neither were injured but neither were even on the bench!

Dont think you can look past Rudi, although think Niall will get my vote, should have played many more games though.

Also must mention Kieron Woodward, I do like a maurauding left footed left back.

I thought Matty was the Maurauder & Kieron spent the game Rampaging down the flank???.

Player of the year,is a difficult one this season. Many players have had great spells (a few months at a time when they have really shone) Chopper, Woodward,Allen,Hannigan,R.Hall,Penn,Ritchie.

But mainly through injury or non selection,no one has put a consistantly long spell in.In my opinion the three players in the best form at present are Ritchie/Hannigan/Negus,but i feel none of those can be considered, simply because they havn't played enough games.Up until last month,i would have gone for Russell Penn.A combination of a slight dip in form/Injury/ Non-selection has not helped him.At this moment,i would go for Rudi, just because of the amount of goals he has scored.

Apart from the last two games and the time before when he was suspended. But your right, Rudi has played more games than any of the others i mentioned. That was part of the reason for choosing him as player of the year (so far).
