As you have reminded me, Rob, I'll tell you about the trip to Stamford Bridge. We were a party of 19 celebarting the birthday with an 0 at the end of a very good pal of mine. A truly fantastic lunch at 'Aglio e Olio' on the Kings Road and then onto the game. £60 seats up high above Roman just outside the penalty area.

Stuart Pierce? Future England manager? He hasn't got a clue. There oght to be a place for him on Oaklands College PASE scheme/our successful Youth Academy or whatever it's called these days. Tactics? Play 5 across the back, put a lone striker up front, give Chelsea the ball and see how many they can score. Before Droggers scored the first, Chelsea must have had 4 or 5 chances that Lee Clarke would have put away. When The Hand of Drog found the net a second time, there was silence around the stadium as everyone waited for the referee to signal for a free-kick.

Distin's sending off was one of those moments. The bench was on the other sdie of the pitch and Pierce and his team had vanished towards the dressing-room. Distin remained on the green bit discussing the finer points of the Law with Mr Stiles, who produced the red card. We imagined Distin trudging into the dressing room. "Right lads, [in the] second half, we will change tactics and go for the win," says Pierce. "We will play three up front with Sylvan sitting in the hole, following up behimd, running the channels from deep....watcha Sylv, what kept you? Now listen. You are going to run the channels... No don't interrupt Sylvo, I'm telling everyone the master strategy for the second half.... So Sylv, you will run the channels...Jesus Sylvo will you forever stop trying to interrupt me when I'm doing the game-plan thing for the second period having taken the positives from the first half?" etc etc.

Anyway. [in the] second half, when Drogba was shot by a sniper and went down in the box, there was an embarrassed silence from the 40,000 Chelsea fans. Ian Wright-Phillips came on and over-ran the first two pacy runs down the right flank. "£23 million he cost", said my pal. "He wouldn't take Matt 'Matty' Hann's place in the starting line-up at Fortress Clarence Park," said I.

Drogba was made man of the match to a noticable chorus of boos from the Chelsea faithful.

I thought of Ian Ridley. He really earns his money if he has to watch that sort of rubbish every week.

Back to some pub in the Kings Road and to the Silver Cup later. It's all a bit of a blur from 6ish onwards.

London Irish played Sale in the St Patricks day match at Reading and went down despite scoring 3 tries, and that was a truly wonderful day by all accounts, and The Mighty Saints go top. And I was at Stamford Bridge. £60. Madness.

Hi Nos.

Admittedly, we were going to lunch first, but we caught the 10.48 from St Albans and walked into the restaurant at 12 ish. It's a walk to the ground. Loads of riot vans, police everywhere, and mounted ones. On horses. No hint of trouble, mind. The seat had 4 inches of leg-room. When you leave the ground, you could take your feet off the floor and be carried 300 yards up the Kings Road.

My pal had laid on a coach which collected us at 7.15. In the Silver Cup by 8.30.

And people actually do that every second week. And you can't change ends at half-time.

Roman walked down the Kings Road past the restaurant at about 12.30. Four minders, two in front, two behind.. He didn't come in for the grilled sardines followed by Gnocchi with a pesto and french bean sauce. He should have done. It was wonderful.

ATF - I tried your link with /index.php and it worked a treat. Thanks.

AFF - What has going to Chelsea got to do with access to the web site?

Is the pressure getting to you as well as Weymuff or is it symbolic of something else? Perhaps you should watch Coronation St and check your symptoms against Mike Baldwin's! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

If you look back, ASF, Rob the Saint mentioned my whereabouts as an aside when responding to you.

I don't watch much TV and certainly none of that soapy stuff. However, I caught a glimpse of Holby City a couple of weeks ago, and the Head Honcho heart doctor used to run the video shop in Eastenders. I found it difficult to take the chap seriously in his medical role as a result. Perhaps he spent his time in Albert Square watching medical videos and qualified as a doctor late in life.
