It was a poor first half and we received a shock in the second half but in the end we eased our way through to the next round of the Essex Senior Cup tonight.

 

The first half was just about even and chances went begging for both sides. Danny Benstock had an effort kicked off the line after rounding the keeper on 5 minutes and Manor's Danny Wilson missed a crossed in ball with the goal at his mercy 4 minutes later. Near the interval Andrew Martin cleared the bar from 6 yards from a Danny Cowley cross and Wilson was put clear from a counter-attack and beat the advancing Paul Wood but was unable to find the target from a very acute angle.

 

The second half was a much more convincing display from us and, after missing a chance in the 52nd minute, Steve Jones opened the scoring, driving in a low shot from 18 yards in the 55th minute. For the next few minutes we swamped the visitors with Martin and Jones having good efforts well saved. Manor rode this storm and grabbed a surprise equaliser with 15 minutes left through Andy Dooley whos strike from the corner of the area caught Paul Wood off his line. We restored our lead though three minutes later when Andrew Martin headed in from a Benstock cross. Manor's keeper made a great save from a Jon Bates efford in the 83rd minute, but Gavin McGowan completed the scoring with an unstoppable shot with a couple of minutes to go.

Hello fellow urchins, wizard here.

Have to say that although we played poorly for most of the game last night we got a good result in the end.

Great strike by Gavin, it flew in! Starting to earn his keep now, good on him.

Martin was outstanding once again. If anyone watched him on saturday, the lad was magnificent. Is there any truth in the rumour that Watford have been scouting him? I heard some whispers in the stand just in front of me last night. Any one with any more details?

Anyway, lets see if we can hang on to him, whoever it is that wants him. The boy is a diamond and could be the only difference between a third/fourth place side or a championship winning side come the end of the season.

Any more views on last nights game or individual performances are welcome.

Taff for Watford ay? I wouldnt doubt it for a minute, he's already proved he can play football league for the eagles and for us he just looks out of place. I say cash in! We got him for free and im sure the big money clubs will pay up in his current form. I cant see us holding on to him til the end of the season though.

Well done Micks boys anyway, i missed last night but managed to get along saturday, we're starting to put a bit of a run together now.

Where is everybody today anyway?

Ignoring all of this idiocy for a moment, has anyone noticed how well batesy has been playing in the last few games. thought he started off the season poorly but he's certainly looking good now, keep at it Jonny boy. Thought Crippsy looked sharp last night and Foxy when he came on as well. Star of the show. The new lad Scottie, what a good find he looks to be. When everything settles down we will be up there at the end thats for sure. Well done mick, keep it up.
