The Meeting after the Match today (long post)

Yes you all have vaild points to make ! and some were expressed at the quick idea meeting, Ted's point is if Eddie agrees to it, then we should then support the idea ! It maybe a daft and foolishg idea...but we have been bleating on and on about publicity,, do you think that this will really damage our club any further than it is already ? We are a small club with 300 supporters do you think this will stop those still attending after the programme has been aired(NO) I thinks....

Those intending to stay away ..what will that achieve ? ....

Just for the record I am not really for the programme either ! but if the club decides to go ahead with in then we have to be behind it and support it... united we stand divided we fall...

My opinion is that it will probably have little impact on bringing people to the club to watch a game. If beating Walsall wasnt enough to bring people back for more games what would a program with limited audience do?

Is people are so against it they can always email roy directly at roy@sloughtownfc.net

ARAAS - Eddie and Westy will still be in charge from what I gathered.

Actually I was more under the impression that Eddie and Westy would stand back and let this guy Ashley try and coach the team. Ultimately what they'd love to see is Ashley make an ass out of himself and for Eddie to get increasingly more annoyed to the point that he steps in.

I have to admit to being indifferent to the idea. It should, and will, all depend on whether Eddie (and the players) is happy enough to do it, or if he thinks it's too big a risk.

Positives may include the opportunity to advertise the plight of the club (albeit to a limited audience), BUT I doubt we'd get many more through the turnstiles, even if Bravo make a big effort to advertise it. And if we lose heavily and it's shown on TV, you have to wonder how it would make the club look, even if the contract says it will only show the club in a positive light - 'Mickey Mouse', as Chris B said. That would be the major concern for me.

Got to say I'm with Marcus and am on the fence. Myself and Nibbler discussed it further on the way home and both said it was worth a shot but having had 24 hours to reflect I'm now starting to think the opposite. There are definately positive and negative points to it, but in the end I think it will come down to the clubs' decision anyway. I will be there no matter what, have to agree with Gary that there is no benefit to staying away.

The debate about who will be in charge is definately an interesting one, as I feel it was this issue that was the only one not properly cleared up at the meeting. Personally, I believe we will beat Folkestone no matter who is running the team, but if this does go ahead and Eddie is not involved in any way, shape or form, then that for me is a problem.

I WILL be picking the team.

Firstly I will bring back Adrian Browne

I will not bother with Denton or West, and as a treat for Slough Fans I will get my management advise from Steve Browne as he told me he was Sloughs best ever manager.

I will not need any Slough fans either as I will bring my own rent a crowd for the game.

The team will change their colours as yellow and blue are not very good on TV and they will play in pink and purple.

Covering will be put up for this game only behind the goals so the ground looks like a proper football ground and to keep the rent a crowd dry as that is a stipulation of their union.

Once we have finished filming you can go back to normal and Roy can sit there waiting for the big fat cheque we promised to arrive - however he may have to wait some time!

Don't know who Raders is but believe you may have aimed that comment at me Roger (it's Radders by the way).

I apologise for having a point of view, for the most part the post I started this thread with was meant to be mostly facts and very little opinion of my own. I was off out at the time and just wanted to give people a head's up about what had been said. To my knowledge everybody (maybe bar 1) in the room last night gave their blessing to the plan at the time (depending on Eddie OK'ing it). I am not the only 1 who has come on here today with a different viewpoint. When you think about it in full it does sound like a crazy plan, although, as I said, I can still see positives.

Interestingly enough Roger, I don't seem to be able to find an opinion from you at all on here yet. A couple of comments here and there, but no definate yes or no. Are you waiting to see what the majority think and then agree? Just wondering!!!

I think there are a few questions that need to be answered:

1) Why wasn't this meeting announced over the PA before the game, at half time or even on the final whistle? Why was it left to chinese whispers and thereby ensuring that the majority of supporters missed the meeting?

2) What are the players views on this?

3) What is Eddie's view?

4) What are the club actually going to get out of this? Something that is concrete rather than a theory that our atytendance will be boosted.

5) Are there not better things that Roy and Bernard could be negotiating at this stage rather than some daft tv programme?

6) Have they sought legal advice on both the contract and the proposal as a whole?

7) Why is this being rushed? The game is in less than two weeks.

Personally, I think it is a bit of piss take. We have supported the club, management and players through a difficult season and now because we are notionally safe we are going to let some joker take over for publicity on a crappy channel.

And yes I could have waited for the meeting to raise all these questions - but I wasn't actually informed of the meeting and there was no hint of it starting anytime shortly after the game. Frankly I had better things to be doing than spending more money in Windsor's clubhouse.

It sounds very much like they've revised their original idea from ealier in the season when they wanted to do a 'fly-on-the-wall' type documentary for 13 weeks with them putting in a board of directors and a manager with no experience of football whatsoever to run the club from top to bottom - needless to say the response they got from clubs was pretty negative!

Granted this new idea is less intrusive and would have no bearing on your season but it's still only a minority channel with very few viewers and I'm sure anyone from this area watching it would already know about the existence of Slough Town anyway.

They say any publicity is good publicity and that's all you could hope to gain from it. It would though be very interesting to see what team he would pick having known the players for less than a week and given no input from the management!
