but I prefer to look at it that the remainder of this season is to be used to getting a squad assembled in preparaton for next season

Using that arguement you can kiss goodbye to any LDV place next season, just like the play-offs (despite how unrealistic that may have been).

You seem happy to just write-off the rest of this season. What happens when the same happens by this time next season? Just write that off also and look forward to 2007/08???

Just a reminder also, that the club are asking that supporters buy their season tickets etc. for 2006/07 season early to enable them to set a budget that will see the 'Fleet challenging at the top of the league. What new supporters are going to invest in season tickets for next season if they continue to be served-up the rubbish that has been seen in recent weeks.

Eeerrrrr no . It does not follow on . We are close to an LDV place now and bringing in an experienced full timer and losing a part timer, does not neccesary mean a move in the wrong direction in the short term, and will probably be beneficial in the long term. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, as many do on here.

However, there is no point in throwing money at new signings now , if it was only to move you up a place or two within the LDV positions, because as good as that will be it will lessen your budget for next season .

LDV qualification is something we should be aiming for, and I would argue the only thing we have left, as anyone who thinks the KSC win is a sign of achievement are kidding themselves. Once we have achieved LDV qualification on and off the pitch we can then look to build on becoming a more established top conference side. Until then I will leave the play off talk to the fairies.

Anyone who seriously thinks we have at any stage over the past few years looked like play off candidates are fooling themselves.

In fact I think that promotion at this time could be very damaging to the club. We are not equipped for it, especially off the pitch.

Anyone who was at the game today could see the vast difference in the quality of players in each squad. If Stevenage had a half decent manager the squad at his disposal would walk this league. Unfortunately we don't have the resources and our board / manager (whoever he is )have to tread more carefully and get what we hope for is the best of the rest without damaging our future.

Up the Fleet and all who sail in her.

I know Lee well, as he played for Enfield when I filmed all their matches in the 90's and he also went to the same school as me in Edmonton, although not at the same time.

He knows some of my Sunday League team's players (Edmonton Rovers) and came to the club's 25th Anniversary Dinner. (We've got our 30th coming up soon Proths, if you are reading this !)
I'm sure he'd like to play for us on Sundays when he retires from Saturday football, but I agree with everyone else on here, he is still a Conference standard-player and I'm sorry to see him go.

However, what we have to realise is that the Conference is now more or less a 100% full-time League...or at least it will be next season. There are probably hundreds of players like Lee for whom it is more rewarding financially to remain part-time, and for all we know, he may be in agreement with the Manager's decision to let him go. Obviously he would have liked to have played a few more games recently before being released. A Conference South team would probably be ideal for him next season.

I will be very surprised if he does not end up playing for Enfield Town at some stage within the next 2-3 years though. They should be in the Southern or Ryman League Premier Division next year and will then presumably put their players on contract. (I don't think they do at the moment).
Lee lives in the Enfield area and as far as I know, his girlfriend is still the Captain of Enfield Ladies F.C. (Sorry Proths. Hope you haven't been keeping that quiet !?)

two things, one its ENFIELD TOWN LADIES F.C. that she is captain of and second she was his girlfriend.

I spoke to him last sunday and he seemed sad about his position at the club.

To let a player of his ability and commitment go speaks volumes, in these days of mercenary players moving to wherever the money is, and not giving a stuff about the club generally, it is refreshing to find a player like Proths who is clearly not of that

type and one who deserves some loyalty from the club.

Wherever he ends up I hope he gets treated better.

we now have 4 left backs in the squad, Hawkins, Watkins, Skinner and Jacko, + Glozier on loan,

But how many of them would be here for next season ?

God forbid Liam may be trying to get his squad for next season established prior to 4 weeks after the season starts like we normally do.
I am not his greatest fan, but for [****!!****] sake give it a rest.

I hope he's not - with 8 games now to go and 24 points to win, a bit early to start rebuilding for next year, especially with an LDV spot still to play for.

Obviously we should aim to finish as high as possible but why is everyone so fired up about an LDV place, when we did finish high enough for one two seasons ago we weren't allowed in.

Other than closing most of the Plough lane end (which probably wouldn't earn us too many bonus points) why do people believe we would be allowed in if we achieved a high enough finish this time?

"People" believe that we would be allowed into the LDV because of the proposal to put seating in the Plough End which, I understand, is to take place in the close season. This would, I am informed, bring ground up to standard for LDV purposes.

Of course, I could be wrong !

I get knocked down but i get up again, no one's ever gonna keep me down !

Going slightly off topic.......look forward to everyone doing the "Larve It....Larve It.....Larve It, Larve It, Larve It" routine when we are 3-0 up next Saturday !!

Cheers,

Think so, although I stand to be corrected.

Cheers,

PS you'd better be there for the Burton game......it's turned into Treasure Hunt for my mob......we may even bring with us a girl who looks like Anneka Rice.....well, she's quite tall and got long blonde hair anyway..... probably about 35 years younger than Anneka !!

Regards,

Having spoken to Lee at York, where he already had an idea he was going to Margate, he asked me to inform the supporters how much he has appreciated the support he received from you all. Lee was sad to be leaving, he loved Gravesend and was always on of the first to show his appreciation after every match win, lose or draw. He always had time for a chat with everyone, even though he took some stick about his hair do!

I hope Lee can start to enjoy his football again, like all players all he wants to do is play and if he did not fit into our structure then for everyone's sake, clearly the best thing was for Lee to move elsewhere.

Good luck Lee, I will miss you cheery face at Stonebridge Road, also please pass on best wishes to your number one fan, you Dad.

Because it will demonstrate how serious we are at progressing.

To be not allowed once is unlucky, to be disallowed twice is bad management.

Reading through the forum I get the general opinion that you all feel Lee has gone fore ever, even though he is only at margate on loan, I think if Liam has any common sense that Lee will not go until he knows who is going to stay or leave, and who,s loans will be extended ect, look at sodje just did not turn up anymore. How many others may do the same and just walk out ?So on a personal level i have not giving up on Lee staying at the club

But Liam would have to have a change of heart because, according to reports (and they're only grapevine reports, I admit) he's told Lee he doesn't have a future at the club. Short of Scott Gooding getting abducted by aliens and none of his other defenders fitting the slot and Liam unable to recruit any right backs in the summer, I strongly doubt we'll see him again.

I think word on the street was that was what Liam wanted to do, but Protheroe didn't want to go, and no clubs came in for him at this stage of the season anyway. He lives up Bedford way, so Margate really adds to his journey. I imagine he'll find a club pretty easily in the summer.
