Best of luck to Lee - always committed to the club when he played. Happy memories include excellent free-kick goals against Leigh and Morecambe, and a run of games when it seemed like he was setting up all of Chris Moore's headed goals. Best of all, though, he has the distinction of being the only Fleet player I have seen sign his contract on a table on the pitch at half-time.

Thanks Lee.

Absolutely crazy letting Protheroe go. If Daish feels that the squad is so strong that he can let someone with Protheroe's ability go then in my view he is wrong.

I agree with Mikefleet, it is sadly unlikely that we'll see him wearing a 'Fleet shirt again.

Has always been very committed to the club and was probably the best 'footballing' defender at the club, a defender who didn't just resort to the great 'hoof' up the middle.

Lee is far above Ryman standard and will probably end up at another Conference club next season. I guess the problem is that he was one of the few remaining part-time players still at Stonebridge Road.

Personally I rather have a fully committed part time player in the squad, than a full-time player sitting on the bench.

Lee you will be missed by everyone who appreciates commitment and skill.

Lees only crime appears to be that he has a good, well paid job as a plumber, which precludes him from going part time.

I would say his only crime, was lack of pace which the full backs need to cover for our 'not the quickest over the ground' centre backs.

Good luck Lee thanks for your time and effort. As mentioned previously in the thread a great footballer and a joy to watch in his time with us.

we now have 4 left backs in the squad, Hawkins, Watkins, Skinner and Jacko, + Glozier on loan,

But how many of them would be here for next season ?

God forbid Liam may be trying to get his squad for next season established prior to 4 weeks after the season starts like we normally do.
I am not his greatest fan, but for [****!!****] sake give it a rest.

I know Lee well, as he played for Enfield when I filmed all their matches in the 90's and he also went to the same school as me in Edmonton, although not at the same time.

He knows some of my Sunday League team's players (Edmonton Rovers) and came to the club's 25th Anniversary Dinner. (We've got our 30th coming up soon Proths, if you are reading this !)

I'm sure he'd like to play for us on Sundays when he retires from Saturday football, but I agree with everyone else on here, he is still a Conference standard-player and I'm sorry to see him go.

However, what we have to realise is that the Conference is now more or less a 100% full-time League...or at least it will be next season. There are probably hundreds of players like Lee for whom it is more rewarding financially to remain part-time, and for all we know, he may be in agreement with the Manager's decision to let him go. Obviously he would have liked to have played a few more games recently before being released. A Conference South team would probably be ideal for him next season.

I will be very surprised if he does not end up playing for Enfield Town at some stage within the next 2-3 years though. They should be in the Southern or Ryman League Premier Division next year and will then presumably put their players on contract. (I don't think they do at the moment).

Lee lives in the Enfield area and as far as I know, his girlfriend is still the Captain of Enfield Ladies F.C. (Sorry Proths. Hope you haven't been keeping that quiet !?)

You have made some good points Cameraman. Unfortunately, I do not think that at Conference level it is necessarily the case that a full-time player is any better in his standard of skill than a part-timer. I still believe that there should be room for good part-timers in our set-up. As for letting Proths go, it seems to me that Liam has let a personality issue get in the way of a clear footballing decision. Anyone with the interests of G&NFC at heart would want to keep a very good footballer at our Club.

Sorry, I cannott. I believe Liam is making a pigs ear of the job at present, so I will continue to state on here where I think it is going wrong.
When credit is due I praise. When criticism is meritted, i give it.
For example, 1 of our 4 strikers has dissappeared, 1 is long term injured, so Liam lets our only reserve right back and signs a 4th left back.

Unfortunately it is coming across that you are whinging at every decision made and looking for negatives before engaging your brain.

I don't know what Liams tought pattern was for the ins and outs this week, but I prefer to look at it that the remainder of this season is to be used to getting a squad assembled in preparaton for next season. I will be disappointed if we sign players now, only for them to bugger off in the summer, especially expensive centre forwards. What a waste of money that would be..

Therefore I am prepared to put up with an unbalanced squad for the time being, as long as, it stabilises for next year.

If we aint then thats the time to criticise.

Like the attitude by the club on increasing the fan base, continued short termism is not a way forward.

Up the Fleet - I am sure you will be joining us all in getting behind the lads today. regardless of team selection.

Until other teams work out there budgets etc, i cannot imagine there will be much on the market of any repute other than crawley town, but as they have now paid there players the exodous has slowed down.It seems to me at the moment we are going for a defensive unit for next season, anyone with any attacking flair seems to be to be frozen out other than a elite one or two,I do hope that we dont go down that road, but most good clubs are based on a solid defence. all well and good, but if we have no attacking flair how the hell are we getting out of our own half??? The big kick up field ??? it has looked really ugly of late and not very productive,as moore, slatter etc are fast because the balls forward are not good enough, we look better when the balls on the floor, just need someone to take responsibiltity and take a shot not pass it and lose it.ooops maybe need some forwards????
