Gravesend & Northfleet manager Liam Daish has received a major blow with news that top scorer Charlie MacDonald's season may be over, reports www.gravesendreporter.co.uk

 

 

The 14-goal striker injured his hamstring while trying to recuperate from a niggling knee problem and a specialist's verdict on Tuesday did not look promising.

 

"How long Charlie will be out I honestly don't know," Daish said. "We're looking to get him back as quickly as possible, but he's not going to be available in the foreseeable future. His season might be over.

 

"It's a major blow because you cannot just go out and get another Charlie MacDonald. Firstly, clubs don't want to release them and secondly, my budget does not allow it."

 

The news from the treatment table is the latest jinx to hit the Fleet.

 

Bobby Bowry, Paul McCarthy, Steve McKimm, Jay Saunders and Ross Smith have all spent prolonged periods of time on the treatment table and Daish is frustrated by his inability to field the same side consistently throughout this campaign.

 

He said: "With our luck, sometimes I feel like I've crossed paths with 20 black cats and run over every one of them."
