come on lads

Recommended Posts

I walked through my door at 4:30 this morning. Was it worth it?..........Hell Yeah .

Im far to tired to wright a match report so ill leave that to GreatEscape but a mention must go to a few players.

Dwain Clack was fantastic, as a winger he never beats his players enough but lastnight he skined thier right back every time and put in decent crosses aswell (not one in the stand) . If he keeps that up then thats only good news for Boylan and co. Never was a sending off but due to the cheating tactics of s'boro the ref fell for it and he got undeservedly sent off.

Again Ben Sedgemore controlled our midfied contributing well defending and going forward just like Saturday.

Jeff Minton who was back to the best we see week in week out in our Ryman days, turning every player inside out. Made up for miss of the season by mugging there keeper right off and scoring from a very tight angle.

Steve Ward, what can be said that hasnt already. Despite being a fossell he just goes from strength to strength and was a rock at the back, clearing every stand in sight.

To be honest everyone that played a part in last nights game deserves massive credit for what was a good team performance.

The scenes at the end were quality. Wardy jumping over the hordings and joining in with the Yellow Army celebrations as the players come over and clapped us. That man really does feel the same way we do about this club.

Well done to everyone connected with C.I.F.C

BRING ON MORECAMBE!!!

Well done lads on the support last night, first class as usual. Players appreciated it and paid credit to the amount that travelled all that way for a midweek game. Great scenes at the end although obviously not appreciated by a Scarborough fan who decided to throw a plastic seat at us in the directors box.

As for the lack of drinking, it must have been true as we noticed Mark WALKING through Benfleet at 4.30 this morning. Not a worn trouser kneecap in sight !!

Well done again to the lads (and lasses) who travelled, get that coach filled for Morecambe.

Fu*king brilliant result lads! Absolutely gutted i had to miss it. Good news is that we are only 5 points off 9th place. Dont know if we will catch up to there with the games we have left but definately in with a shout of finishing in the top half of the table.

Well done lads for acheiving a great result and assuring us of our greatest league finish so far. Boo to everyone who was criticising only 6-8 weeks ago. I am certainly a happy Canvey Island supporter this season. Just dont mention cup runs.

No. Only replys to other peoples comments that were moany concerning management where i said that it would probably benefit Canvey if a new manager came in eventually to carry the team further on up, i.e., League Football, with Jeff taking a seat upstairs. And i said that this should happen in the next couple of years because i feel that a more experienced coach would have the skill to do so. However, when people criticised the management openly, i have backed Jeff and Glenn because i do and still believe that every decision made concerning the club up to this point has been the right one.

What an absolutely fantastic day!!

I'm sat at work drinking what seems to be my 100th cup of coffee already to stay awake, but is was worth every sleep deprived moment!!!

The trip up there was very good, left at 1pm and arrived about 6.15pm with a stop in the middle (actually 2 stops thanks to Darren and his weak bladder!)

The pub we went in was really nice, though my pool championship hopes were dashed at the final hurdle!

When we got to the ground (£10 to get in as well!), up went the flags and away we went!

The game started quite open with both sides creating chances. I would say on the balance of play they edged the first half. Saying that, their keeper made a couple of smart saves to keep the score at 0-0 at the break.

Second half, carried off where the first ended, though I felt whatever was said at half time had an affect as we attacked with a bit more creativity. Dwaine Clarke was a permanent threat down the left wing doing what he does best - beating his man and delivering good crosses.

Scarborough had the first real attempt of the second half which hit the post, though from we were it looked like Danny got finger tips to it. If he did it was a remarkable save from a keeper who's recent performances have been faultless.

We should have had a penalty a few moments later when some good passing and defensive errors allowed Clarke to break through. For some reason, the ref seemed to think that rather than score, Dwaine would choose to trip over the player bearing in mind he only had the keeper to beat! Saying that, overall the ref didn't have a bad game though was a bit easily lead.

With about 15 mins to go we got a free kick on the right hand corner of the 18yrd box. Clarkey went for goal and was unlucky to strike the inside of far post - we were gutted. However, this feeling only lasted a few moments as the ball fell perfectly to Jason to nod home after coming on as a sub for Kezie. We went mental as you would expect!

Scarborough started to press as you would expect from a team in their position, and eventually scored. The goal itself was a beauty, must have been 25yrds out and walloped the ball into the top right hand corner. We were a bit deflated after the ecstacy 8 minutes earlier, though in truth we would have taken a point before the game to keep our run going.

Scarborough then in my opinion sealed their own fate. As Scarborough were attacking, one of their players was lying on the ground holding his head. The ref didn't stop play so Boro kept attacking and very nearly scored. As the ball came out, Clarkey sportingly put the ball out of play for the play to receive treatment. As soon as the ball went out the player leapt to his feet and Scarborough tried to play on. Our players obviously went ballistic at this total lack of sportsmanship, as the ball should have been returned to Danny. The lino flagged to advise the ref but the ref seemed to be signalling that he cannot make the player return the ball.

Moments after, Clarkey was shown a second yellow for clattering the player who faked injury. From where we were it looked as though he played the ball, but admittedly the tackle was a bit reckless. He received a great reception upon leaving the pitch as his performance was top class from a player is looking better and better every game he plays.

We then thought we'd won the game when Hallett found himself one on one with the keeper. His shot was saved and parried straight into the path of Jeff Minton, but the ball caught a bobble and the open goal was missed from 12yrds out. To be fair, there were 2 players marking Jeff so he had to hit it first time, but it was not to be.

Then came 2 minute barrage of backs to the wall defending which we eventually hoofed out.....

.....This fell luckily at the feet of Jason, who after a great first touch beat his man and charged towards goal. After beating a second player and running a good 50-60 yards, he squared the ball to Jeff Minton, who then played it onto sub Jay Conroy who came on after Dwaine was dismissed. Some players would have headed for the corner in this situation, but instead Jay delivered a great cross (though personally we were a bit disappointed he didn't stop and do his trademark trick to cross the ball!)

As the keeper came to collect the ball, amazingly he allowed it to slip through his fingers and dropnext to the post. Minton hit it and for a moment time stood still. It was such a tight angle it would need a quality player to slot it home - lucky we've got Minton really!!!

When the ball hit the side netting with what turned out to be the last real kick of the game, the scenes were fantastic. I felt no pity for the Scarborough players, as their earlier "cheating" behaviour had been unrewarded. As they held their heads and fell to their knees, the players and the fans went crazy!

This final whistle sounded as soon as kick of was taken, and Jeff's goal in the 94th minute had won it! The small but proud Yellow Army waved the flag with pride as the players came over to enjoy the moment with us. It was great to see and hear the comments since about their gratitude for our attendance, but in reality committed performances like that is why we'd follow them to hell and back!

And as for Wardy, the passion that guy shows for the club is incredible! He jumped over the hoardings and was in with us singing and dancing away! He is Mr Canvey Island and is what non league football all about!

A special mention has to go to the Stewards at Scarborough (let's just say I was on my knees in front of the lively female steward!), and also the couple of Yorkshire lads who came and sang with us! They do what I do and got to local games in the away end, but they got stuck in and were made more than welcome!

The coach home was tiring to say the least, especially as a divertion in Lincolnshire seemingly directed us to end up in France (well, it seemed like it anyway!) Got in at 4.20am, up at 8.00am to see England win the cricket!

Sorry about the length of that post, but days like that are so easy to ramble on about!

Get on that coach to Morecambe and let's show the lads how proud we are of the way they'v turned this season around!!!

They've just mentioned on Match of the Day about the 3,000 Newcastle supporters coming down to London for a midweek game. John Motson said they would unlikely be home before the 'Milkman'. What about the Canvey fans last night!!!!?
