The Ref

Not one to normally criticise a referee as I think its mostly unfair to do so but on yesterdays showing the referee changed the game in one unfair & unjust decision. Even standing down the other end it could be seen that the ball rose up & hit Allman.Allman did not put hand to the ball. No-one appealed at all as far as I could see. We were two up & I feel it was this that swayed the ref to make the game more exciting by awarding the kick. We werent playing well but were soaking things up and generally holding on to that two goal lead with ease. Once the penalty was awarded we fell apart. What a difference that two goal cushion is.As well as that decision the referee was more than willing to blow up for anything & everything. I would imagine that if someone was keeping record of his whistling it would have been monitored as a whistle every one minute because as I could see thats how it sounded to me. Why some refs feel it has to be them that take the spotlight is beyond me.I have always maintained that the referee who is hardly noticed is the ref that has had a good game. Obviously not from yesterdays performance by the official.

I am not saying that we shouldnt have managed to cope with things better despite this but it certainly changed the course of the game having an unfair penalty a soft penalty awarded against us. Had we been only one up I doubt that the ref would have awarded that penalty at all. It happens that way in lots of instances. He just wants to please BOTH teams and get a good mark from both clubs. Evening things up to do that is not the way but unfortunately there are too many referees out there who wish to please everyone whilst getting themselves to stand out amongst the players on that day. Yesterday he tried but was unsuccessful on both counts, except to say that Walton must have felt gratitude to him for awarding a penalty kick when according to the laws of the game it wasnt.

The ref seemed very keen to punish both sides for any sign of a foul, most of the time it wasn't warranted. Giving free kicks for someone often just falling off balance. I remember a couple of decisions for us that were innocuous and likewise the more frustrating decisons against us which were not necessary. This ruined the flow of the game too often. The penalty decision was very harsh. Simply not a penalty. I have lost count how many times that sort of contact has been made with opponents hands in the box this season and the penalty shouts have fallen on deaf ears. If we had a penalty given for that I would be laughing.

When i went to watch Ramsgate v Croydon the referee was the best referee i had seen all season. He kept the game under control, played good advantages and did not give away stupid decisions as all the other refs especially one Ian Crouch do.

Croydon Athletics goal stemmed from a BLATENT handball.

This thread is about the ref from yesterday in particular & not about his at Ramsgate.Besides if it was a blatant handball how does that make the referee a good one. Surely if it was blatant it would be an easy decision to make but it dosent mean the ref is a good one. I bet he made some howlers during that game too.

It was mentioned that it was Standen though I did think it was Allman.I could have been mistaken on that Alan. Either way I definately saw the incident clearly & i.m.o it wasnt a penalty according to the laws of the game. However its gone now so best to forget & get over it I suppose. Nothings going to change that decision now.

It was Dean Standen, the ball hit his left leg just above the foot then played onto his right hand. No fault of Deano's complete accident.
