If you go to the first page of this thread you'll see that the question "the push for 1000 posts" was regards that week we were tryinh for 1000, not for 1000 in this post.

If Alan Davies (poodle haired so called funny man) is to be believed in his presenation in favour of Lennon being greatest Briton (disgrace he was in the top ten - not even the greatest Beatle) then Lennon started the first peace movement.

 

Does Mr Davies need remining of the existance of CND.

 

I am concerned that I posted something similar to this about 3 weeks ago.

 

So to liven things up(!) after 100 greatest Britons we have the 100 greatest books - any suggestions?

 

I suggest Brighton Rock for a starter.

Lennon - women beating, alcoholic, druggie - the odd good tune.

 

McCartney - celebrity scouser, ideas above his station with half baked classical output, possibly dead.

 

Harrison - best single by a Beatle as an individual artist, one excellent album, very nice of him to donate the Manor near Aldenham.

 

Starr - no competetion, Thomas the Tank Engine makes him the greatest Beatle - to be able to excel in such a different area as cartoon voice overs takes genius.

George Best, Gazza, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Phil Tufnell - they are all guilty of at least one of the crimes in Lennon's "category", but you cannot deny their obvious natural talent. And Lennon had that in abundance.

None of them are held up by their fans as being the great hope for peace or as having some political influence. I do not think that any of those that you named would cover up their past. The media likes to portray Lennon as whiter than white (apart from when they go to the other extreme and do a character assasanation). A little perspective is all that is needed.

 

Would he be so highly thought of if he was alive.
