The push for 1,000 posts

Recommended Posts

I'm old enough to know better - but I'll settle for middle aged.

The best seen on the great turf is a difficult one ! But I think I would have to go with defender/midfielder Phil Wood. Maybe not the best footballer, but he did play over a 1000 games for city, which must count for something. Other names that spring to mind are:

John Butterfield

John Mitchell

Paul Mayles

Steve Clark

Any other "old timers" out there who could add to the list ? (only need another 70 for that 1000 posts)

Hi Canary

Phil Wood still comes down the Park to watch sometimes.

Other names from the pre-Mitchell days who I remember would be: Dave Lawrence, Dave Neville, Bobby Childs.

Best midfelder would have to be a toss-up between George Cooper and Lennie Piper, though Martin Duffield and Allan Cockram deserve a mention. Best winger either Phil Driver or Jimmy King.

Robbie Smale was always one of my favourites in partnership with Paul Mayles but for skill it had to be Brian Stein as a partner to Clarky. Shame he was only in it for the money.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. A winter of discontent, and the Boreham Wood message board was as quiet as ever. A good day would see 2, maybe 3 messages, whilst a bad one would see none. Not exaclty verbose, those old Woodonians.

Another 3 points collected by the Mighty Saints saw their fixtures list provide Boreham Wood as the next kind souls to donate their blood to the Saints' cause. In the bygone era of nonleague.nets, and Ikonboards, there was a time when Boreham Wood actually had their own website and message board. A young vagabond that went by the name of TL, an inquisitive soul, often found that, with a lack of '1,000 post challenges,' he would stray onto opposition team message boards.

The joys of HTML had recently been discovered and divulged to this innocent youth, and his favourite quirk was to scroll his messages in a 'marquee' fashion. On arrival at the deserted Boreham Wood board, the young scallywag decided to make a post. He included, or attempted to include, scrolling text in his message, using HTML and square brackets. The results were, as they say, there for all to see.

Basically, what I'm trying to say, right, is, you know, I made the whole of the Boreham Wood Message Board scroll across the page from right to left. All of it. The whole screen. Scrolling. Apparently the Wood webman had to phone up the webman from the Wood, who fixed it.

I seem to remember back in the times when men were men and message boards were message boards and didn't have stupid things like avatars and smilies plastered all over them a certain fellow (who shall be nameless) inserted a rendition of 'when the saints go marching in' into his posting on the A£d€r$hot message board, which caused great consternation to the poor souls from the barracks for a day or two. Oh, happy days.

That was a late entry Laz. Restricted access computer at work internet content of which is controlled by organisation servers, rather P.I.A. I see it was your favoured result last night. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif" alt="" /> And now we are [color:"red"] 9 [/color] <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smilie_switch.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smilie_switch.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smilie_switch.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smilie_switch.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smilie_switch.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smilie_switch.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smilie_switch.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smilie_switch.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smilie_switch.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smilie_switch.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif" alt="" />
