Today vs Tamworth

Good win, but a scrappy game...

Slats and the Smiths had pretty good games, shame Drury got injured but Johnson did an even job.

Tamworth's centre forward was the clumsiest player I've seen in a long time! Second half was a lot better than the first.

Shame to see tension between Saunders and Johnson, when they were at my end they were shouting at each other, and Saunders said to him 'Why dont you just f*** off, yeh?' I was thinking ooooooooo!

Also a shame about the attendance, the £1 for kids thing clearly didn't work. Well, it brought about 30 annoying kids sitting behind me, but overall it wasn't a success.

ah and Luke Moore.. I know he's young and he wasn't on for long but he can be so irritating to watch! He keeps losing possession! I really do think he's more of a Conference South player. Grr! bring back Charlie or even Sodje.

At least he got 3 minutes on the pitch longer than normal.

Pretty drab game, probably no more than expected, only enlivened by 2 bits of quality from Messrs Smith and Jackson (Sounds like a gun!!)

It had the "end of season" feel about it, and although we huffed and puffed, we didn't play devastating soccer against what was a pretty poor team.

I suppose 2 goals, a win, a clean sheet and an improved gate are reasons to smile, but the smile is a little forced, I'm afraid.

I smiled !!!!

Reasons to be cheerful:-

a) Ade's birthday....although there was no credit card behind the bar !!

B) The pub boys ( my mates...who turn up occasionally to support the cause ) didn't freeze to death in the first half at the Swanscombe end

c) We won......end of !

d) I think Luke Moore is a bit too quick at thinking for some of the other players.......so stop slagging him off !!

e) Jimmy's pinpoint looping header for the second goal....the only place it could have gone in.....nice one Jim.

Cheers,

Personally, I thought that we were slightly better than the last two home games, but we were hardly troubled by a fairly poor Tamworth side. I find it worrying that we created so few chances to score and really didn't look like adding to the second goal in the last half hour. I also thought that the experiment of playing James Smith up front was an unusual move. Admittedly he took his goal well and adds some presence in and around the box, but he doesn't appear to have a strikers instinct. When he was put through with only the 'keeper to beat in the second half, his weak shot was directed straight at him and seemed to have been as a result of panic. I now wonder who Liam will try out next as a striker ( Drury having been the first failed experiment ) from the present squad? Are there any hidden gems waiting to be converted? Finally, although he runs into spaces well, I am yet to be convinced that Mark Rawle can control the ball when being marked by an opposing player. Did he succeed even once today?

Well I would certainly think of giving Kerr a chance to stretch his legs for a change! Actually, having said this, my guess is that he will be selected to play in goal v Margate. So he will have to await his outfield debut until Stevenage away.

who you would play in goal!

In goal?!! Are you some kind of lily-livered cowardy custard, Jim GNFC?!

At this stage of the season, this isn't the time to be poncing about with goalkeepers and worrying about who's going to catch the darn thing, we should be experimenting with the keepers up front and 'monkey rush' at the back.

Just an aside, I sat in the stand yesterday, partly because of the cold, and partly my mate has heart trouble. I found the stewarding is still very Gestapo like.

There were a number of children sitting today, possibly as a result of kids 4 a quid?. On one occasion, 2 sitting next to me stood up, almost immediatly contronted not by a quick "sit down" by a steward, but by a procession reading the riot act, including one guy in a suit and Fleet tie. Their parent/ guarding was then taken out of the stand, told off? then returned duly chastised.

The lads WERE NOT misbehaving or being troublesome.

Now I may have missed something, in which case I apologise, but this over reaction was WAY over the top. Nobody had complained - the boys were at the very back of the stand.

I know the stewards have a diffucult job to do, but picking on easy prey, as do traffic wardens , is not the way to do the job.

We are 3/4 through the season, and still it seems the stewarding is heavy handed.

The club cannot claim their standing up was dangerous - it is certainly no more a risk threat than trying to evacuate the stand in the event of a fire. With the seating so close and so little leg room it is impossible to negotiate one's way through the stand.

I was so cramped I had to stand up myself at least twice, but I'm not easy prey and I would REALLY let the stewards know about Health & Safety!!

Perhaps the stewards would be better served by asking supporters to sit in alternate rows.

It does seem the club finds new ways to shoot itself in the foot. Offer kids 4 a kid, get them in, bore them to tears, then tell 'em off when they get restless. It must have seemed like having to pay for detention to them.

2 more lost potential supporters?

And with home gates still appalling, we need every new fan we can get.

Grumble over.

I was sitting in front of that lot too and I too thought the stewards were making a bit too much fuss. The amount of stewards that came over, I thought something really bad had happened, but they were just standing up at the back! They wern't bothering anybody as far as I was aware. All the fuss was distracting from the game for a lot of people.

I did warn the 2 lads the stewards were a bit "strict", they looked terrified after their telling off by the head poncho, as any 8 year old would.

They were hardly the Inter City firm!!

Many congratulations to the stewards for stopping a guardian/dad and about 6 kids with him from probably coming again. I know if me and my children were spoken to like that I wouldn't - and a very strong letter to Brian would have followed.

I was tempted to bring my boisterous 6 year old girl in the spring - FORGET IT!!!!

I had a similar encounter with a steward at the Hereford game when I was told to sit down before the players had even come out!

I wont see 50 again and have been sitting in the wing stand for at least 25 years so I think by now that I know how to behave. I told her that I would sit down before the match started and she cleared off.

Fortunately, I can laugh off this sort of incident but I suppose anyone new to the club could have found it somewhat unpleasant.

My neck hurts. And god it was cold.

Why do I feel like we've lost?

You've got a good young prospect playing up front, you talk him up for ages then when he isn't doing it for you you leave him on the bench for 85 minutes and play a defender instead. Why?

Why doesn't Daish make substitutions before the final monments of the game, unless of course a player is injured? He should take a leaf out of Mouriniho's book and start bringing players on after 26 minutes.

Daish told the bbc "We played 4-5-1 at York last week and looked dangerous"

For the first 45 minutes I admit we looked in danger of maybe stringing two or three pass' together, or even cross the half way line with the ball. In the second half we played better but but by the dangerous I think Daish means the people behind the goal who were getting in the way of the players shots.

I don't mean to be negative but even whitebucket's depressed about our current situation, I'm not blaming me being depressed about things on Ed I've felt like this for a couple of weeks.

A team that plays badly yet wins is the sign of a good team and every good team is built on a decent defence yet we don't seem to have the managerial staff to exploit teams weakness'. I don't claim to be Brian Clough or have any tactical nouse so therefore I'm not a manager.

If Daish manages to be the man to take us to the football league or even to the next level I'll eat my words but it just doesn't look like it.

I reckon Liam thinks if you dont use your 3 subs, you get a points deduction !! Otherwise, what on earth was the point on putting Fuller on, practically in injury time? There certainly didnt seem much need to waste time at that stage.

As for James Smith,I thought he did somewhat better than Mark Rawle on Saturday - his best work was with his back to goal and from his lay offs, however. The look on his face after he scored seemed to say it all really - he appeared as surprised as anyone that the shot had gone in!
