As an ex Cuckoo I have been keeping an eye on young Lee Clarke and his progress with the Saints.

We have a Cuckoos old boys thread on our website and I wondered if anyone on here would care to give me a paragraph or two about one of our most famous former players?

I would be very greatful if you could oblige!

Hi

Why 'cuckoos'?

You can borrow the piece off the squad page if you want:

'Last seasons second highest scorer in the Conference South – and the St. Albans City Player of the Year - who kicked off the current campaign by scoring in all of the Saints opening eight fixtures (ten goals). Endured a barren spell at the start of winter but has been back amongst the goals since the turn of the year including a hat trick against Basingstoke Town at the end of the January, with his 20th goal of the season coming in a 2-0 win over Dorchester Town on 4 March. (note: now 22, scored 2 against Carshalton on 11th March - Ed)

Began his career as a sixteen year old with Cambridgeshire side Yaxley prior to teaming up with the former St. Albans player Barry Fry at Peterborough United.

Signed for the Saints from Peterborough in January 2004 having made three appearances for the Posh, also had a spell on loan to Kettering Town.

Has been used in attack and midfield to good effect by City this season and celebrated his 100th game for the club at Histon on 11 January by scoring his 57th goal.

Son of the former Northern Ireland striker Colin Clarke he has played five times for the Ireland U21 side and last season made two appearances for an FA XI scoring once.

Away from St. Albans he has set up his own coaching school, in association with the local schools, in Peterborough.

His grandfather, William Gallagher, scored seven times in 21 appearances for Ipswich Town during the early 1950s.'

Yaxley is proberly one of the worst places I have ever been to. Much like wisbech really, full on inbreds and all that. A place definetly to avoid!

Thanks for that positive appraisal of our village.
