Enfield Town 2 Wivenhoe Town 1

Recommended Posts

Cousins, Campbell, Negus, Allen, Hannigan, Stephens, Velandia, Smith, Paul, Hammatt, Ritchie, Morgan, Nyman, Baldwin, Magona, Hall

Gate 258

Well in the early exchanges Mark Cousins made a few early saves. Trevor Paul shot wide in one on one with keeper off his line. Trevor Paul shot wide again. On 19 minutes a goal of the match, Lee Smith sprinting passes the ball to Lionel Ritchie who glided through 5 defenders like they weren’t there and a shot which was going just wide before Bryan Hammatt tapped it in past Sanders. 1 – 0. What a lovely goal. Paul Campbell shot just wide. Trevor Paul in one on one and keeper save this time. Corner after corner town kept the pressure up. Steve Velandia had a shot saved. Bryan Hammatt did a lovely little pull back before his shot was blocked. Bryan Hammatt offside according to the lino. How can you run round a defender with the ball and go offside? So at the end of the first half Town were outclassing, a short and seemingly unfit Wivenhoe. The keeper was getting irritated with Kevin Stephens and in his face at corners. Kevin responded by kissing him on the cheek which just hacked him off some more.

Second half teams came out and Ollie Sanders in the goal mouth starting abusing the town subs and kicked a ball over the fence, which was churlish. A Paul Campbell shot was blocked. Trevor Paul skimmed a header just past the post. Paul Campbell and Niall Ritchie were teaming up well with one twos to storm down the wing. Lee Smith shot low and hard and Sanders just managed to get down for the save. Bryan Hammatt brought down in to the box – nothing given. Mark Cousins saved again. Lee Smith made for Trevor Paul to shoot wide. Town were storming at the Wivenhoe defenders if only we could put this game out of reach! Dean Nyman on for Trevor |Paul Steve Velandia had a shot saved. Johnny Morgan on for Niall Ritchie (who had run his heart out brilliantly). In the 78th minute Wivenhoe went on the attack and because they were so poor Paul Campbell helped them out 1 – 1. Town fans filled with horror, could this be 2 points lost? Fortunately the lads did not give up and a lovely cross on the 83rd minute came in which was not gathered or connected with by Lee Smith but Kevin Stephen was in the overlap position and nailed it in the roof of the net. YES 2 – 1. Town fans erupted with pure relief. How could we lose against a team we outclassed? Baldrick came on for Bryan Hammatt.

Everybody worked hard today and was a credit to the town shirt. 3 well won points in the end.

Well done Town. I think the team played well today and we fully deserved the points. We nearly threw it away by not finishing them off earlier in the game. How did Trevor miss his one on one with their keeper late in the first half?

Well done to Bryan for his second in two games. I hope Steve A's kept his £50.00 safe for you in line with his promise in Thursday's Gazette!

Five wins from five for Town and six from six for York City - it doesn't get much better than this.

Happy Days!

Nice to see chopper in attendence as well.

Ritchie was my man of the match today.

It seems we can now field two totally different sides from week to week and still perform to the same good standard. This rotation seems to be keeping most of a big squad happy as well. (I would still like to see Nyman given more time on the field.)

The triangle of Hannigan/Allen (with Stephens protecting them in midfield) does seem to be working really well at the moment.

Keep an eye on the website in a couple of days for video of Kevin's goal.

Chopper was an unused sub .....

THis is the second time Chopper has been named as an unused sub in his ETFC career - the other was also against Wivenhoe but in the SLC

Wivenhoe were a bit of a disapointment, I was expecting a much tougher game, they didnt start going forward until the last 15 minutes.

Having said that, I thought Town put in their best display since the Harlow game, the first goal was all about Lee Smith's non-stop running, Niall Ritchie's silky skills & Bryan Hammett in the right place at the right time (Deadly from a yard is our Bryan lately).

Al-James Hannigan solid again at the back & Kevin Stephens looking better every game.

Two points about the game yesterday how far up his own ar$e was Wivenhoe's keeper? What a complete knob he was.

Also how small was Lee Smith's shirt? either he is carrying a few extra pounds or he was wearing Rudi's shirt! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/laughuncontrollable.gif" alt="" />

Well if Chatham want to be a great disappointement and give us an easier game than expected I'll be delighted. think next Saturday will be a significantly different type of match.

This is for Ollie. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bisou.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bisou.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bisou.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bisou.gif" alt="" />

I thought we absolutely murdered them when we kept the ball on the ground and ran at them. Simthy's 'never say die' attitude gave Ritchie the opportunity to go on his mazy run before we scored the goal. I wonder why we didn't continue to do it after that.

However, the team were able to work hard and the right result came about about Kevin's goal. I think Al J H was able to congratulate Kevin on his goal at the end of the game. It took him that long to catch him!

I could not give a MOM as I think there were too many solid performances, especially from Al, Kevin, Lee and Niall. What a talker Al is! Never stops congratulating players, telling them what to do, encoraging them, and above all, had the BIG number 9 in his pocket.

It was worrying though that we never finsihed them off earlier. They had three attempts on goal and were quite disappointing. However, we are putting together a good run at the right time. Looking forward to Chatham next week.
