What exactly makes our current name sound like whatever expletive you typed in there?

Given that we're still not totally sure where the new ground will be, it's hard to say how much of a genuine connection we'll be having to Ebbsfleet. As I've said, Brian's comments, while undoubtedly helping to gauge public opinion as Wobbly pointed out, suggest the club's stance on the issue is reactive rather than pro-active, and this seems the most pragmatic route to take at present.

Again its only a personal thing, but I can't stand names of merged clubs that keep hold of both teams names. There is no right or wrong on this but I think it gives out a signal of a club that don't really know what it is.

So therefore I think that Gravesend and Northfleet, Dagenham and Redbridge , Havant and Waterlooville, Rushden and Diamonds, Brighton and Hove etc are all [****!!****] names. ( PS Do the residents of Hove get upset that the team is consistently called just Brighton ? )

Altough I hold this view , it does not stop me proudly saying that the Fleet are my team. Which normally gets the reaction of who, and then when I spiel out the full title, I can see people have switched off before you get past the and.

And a football club most certainly won't be the first thing on anyone's mind if we were called Ebbsfleet. It will probably be the railway station. And this incidentally will provide the influx of any new locals, who we pretend will support us, an even quicker method of reaching the London Premiership sides that they probably already support. Oh, and the station is certainly an old fashioned "200 metres from the ground" as Brian was reported to have said in the Distorter.

I haven't set out to be deliberately negative. Regretably I think I am being realistic. If the new ground was likely to be built in the Ebbsfleet "Valley" itself, I could just about see some logic to a change of name. However, if we are moved to, say , the site of the present cement works or some other riverside location, we will be nowhere near Ebbsfleet. I just feel that the developers will decide that the virgin greenbelt land and former long since filled in chalk pits will be too valuable and large an area to build a football stadium upon. They will get much more revenue from retail and warehouse businesses and housing than a sports arena. We will have to make do with a second hand "brown" site and I can't see this as being in Ebbsfleet.
