For Havering Council read Basildon Council

Recommended Posts

As many of you may already know. Basildon United will have to eventually vacate their Gardiners Close ground due to a compulsory purchase.

There is a stadium right in the middle of Basildon called Gloucester Park. Basildon have asked the council if they can play there. Seems to make sense middle of town, good transport links, good facility with potential. An ideal chance for Basildon United to develop as a club and give a big town like Basildon a decent football team.

Anyway the Council have said no (not sure why) in typical negative local council fashion. Instead they have offered them a piece of land in the next field to Bowers & Pitsea's ground. Which has not gone down well with BUFC or Bowers & Pitsea. When I last spoke to my contact at Bowers, they were mounting a legal challenge to this.

i think they are right!it's like if your local council gives a plot of land to romford next to the bridge to build a new ground.... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

whereas it only kicks off every other week as they play away from home.

all councils are the same. even arsenal said that if they knew the crap islington were going to give them, they'd either not have bothered with moving or would have moved out of the borough.

Surely it is a case of what you are as opposed to who you are...ie no council would have the temerity not to find a well-supported Premiership/Championship club (The Franchise excluded) a new ground, whereas 99% of councillors in Havering, Basildon and any other metropolitan areas, who have a vested interest in football, probably don't even know their local club exists...

Agree there Coup. If you asked every councillor if and what there local football club is called none would know.

ESU is right all councillors are stuck in the dark ages and could not give a rats [****!!****].

They would rather build flats etc.

Tis now the local land fill site.. The mad man who bought the land (we think) put up all sorts without planning permission, and after we left I think there were a few cup finals played there, but now he has turned it back into a dump site.

Shame, even though it was a sh!t hole, it was our kind of sh!t hole...and a home (well kind of, but that is another story).

As i say the lights were still up and the road was just blocked off, so i don't think it is a dump site coup mate.

Might be worth somebody having a look into mate!

I know it was not the best ground in the world but as you said it was your own.

The bloke who owns it is as mad as a balloon..promised us the earth when he first bought it, but problems re planning permission etc soon kicked in and that was that.

Not been up there for years but I am sure that avenue has been travelled down in our pursuit of a stable base..

PS No silly jokes re stables, Easty, Westy, Tree et al....
