Arlesey Town 2 Hornchurch 2

A hard fought game in the fog at Arlesey. Arlesey started brighter and took the lead through Jamie Richards after 5 minutes. Their lead held for 5 minutes until a forward ball from Barrie Fox (?) found Andrew Martin who beat the offside trap and slotted home from 18 yards.

We took the lead 7 minutes into the second half when a superb ball into the area found Gavin McGowan who sent in a low drive which was blocked by the keeper but found its way into the back of the net via Steve Jones' knee. Arlesey's Matt Corbould was sent off with 30 minutes to go after a second yellow card and for a while Arlesey struggled to cope. Barrie Fox shot wide from 18 yards with the whole goal to aim at, Steve Jones hit the crossbar from a Martin center and Danny Benstock had a goal disallowed for offside. Arlesey though got their act together for the last 10 minutes and put us under a lot of pressure. Their equaliser came with 5 minutes of normal time remaining when Wayne Cort poked the ball home from 12 yards (I think - it was getting difficult to see through the fog). Another chance came for us straight from the kick-off when Danny Benstock missed a virtually unguarded net from 18 yards. In a frantic finish Paul Wood was called into action twice denying Craig Reynolds and Dean Harding and the game finished even.

Hornchurch:- Wood, McGowan, Bates, Jopson, Marsden, Fox (Cowley 75), Locke, Gooding, Jones, Martin, Benstock. Subs not used:- Cripps, McDonald, Wray.

our hosts today were delighted with their point and they haven't lost at home all season, teams know we are on the march..... Disappointed with one point, should have had three, nonetheless, we played well and made numerous chances, all respect to our hosts, but we were better than they were by a mile.

Positive comment, can we learn, real quick please, how to kill a game off when we are in front with five minutes left and can our prolific strikers please learn to play for the team, the club, the fans, and not themselves. Great stuff, lets go, into the prem, we're good enough.

agreed, but we still could have lost the game in the last minute if woodie hadn't been so alert. We need to be more cynical and kill games off when we are leading and to all intents and purposes bossing the match, We sit too deep at times and invite pressure. Woodie gets man of the match and in truth the whole team played really well but where's the other two points?
