Halifax Game Off

Recommended Posts

Obviously safety of players and supporters alike has to be the first consideration. Any doubt on either then the game has to be postponed.

That said it is yet another fixture that will need to be re-arranged, Halifax will be a heck of a long journey for a mid-week game.

On the plus side though it gives the club another week to get some of the injuries sorted out.

White Van Nistelroy....Ray Corney a favourite player?....did he play much first team football?

What about Tommy Williams and Harry Easton.....they always did a good job IMHO

Anyway, Halifax sure is a long way to go on a Tuesday night.

Chip shops near the Shay are not what they were either I am told......

Ray Corney had two spells with the 'Fleet. Firstly seasons 1962/63 to 1963/64 and then 1967/68 to 1968/69. During that those periods he made 95 appearances and scored 4 goals.

Ray was an uncompromising full-back who often lived up to his nickname of 'chopper'.

Last I heard of Ray, he was the landlord of a pub in Seal, Near Sevenoaks. But that was probably getting on for 18 years ago.

With regard to the others, I can certainly remember Harry Easton but unfortunately not Tommy Williams. Certainly Harry did a great job for the club during his time at Stonebridge Road.

A brief biog of Harry is here:

As ever, an appeal for anyone with old photos and knowledge of players before my time (pre-1988) would be most welcome!
