Colin Lippiatt

Recommended Posts

I religeously follow the 'cutting-edge' journalism that is the Official web-site and, when queuing at the newsagent for the various periodicals what I subscribe to [only another 197 issues before my De Agostini micro-light aircraft is finished], I glance at the back page of the St Albans Observer.

The last time that was worth reading, was the incisive interview with Ian Ridley upon his unanimous election to the Board. As I recall from that issue there was a brief comment from The Most Successful Manager In The Whole History Of The Mighty Saints, Colin Lippiatt, to the effect that he would be stepping down from the dug-out thingy at the end of the season, but that he hoped to have some involvement on the commercial side of the club.

Does anyone have any further news of Colin and/or his successor, if appropriate?

I had already `heard' that Colin will be continuning in his current role for at least one more season.

From what I can gather Colin came out of retirement of soughts to `help' Stuart Cash but has obviously enjoyed the time since and hence had decided to continue with the able support of Mr Roddis.

That is very good news indeed Rob2.

I had guessed as much as I was intrigued at the news that several players had signed and committed their futures to The Saints, apparently with the uncertainty of not knowing who would be at the helm of the ship for our quest for a place in Europe next season.

Great stuff.

Oh, by the way. Statistically, he makes a better manager than a 'helper'. Stuart Cash is in 42nd and bottom place in the Managers Hall of Fame at Fortress Clarence Park with an average points per game ratio of 0.00. Colin, as manager, however, is top of the list. I would quietly drop the 'Helper to Stuart Cash' bit from the Curriculum Vitae if Colin is minded to put his cap in the ring for the England job.

You figures clearly don't include cup games, AFF!

Mr Cash, assisted by Lord Lip, guided the Saints to an impressive 2-1 victory away at some South Midlands League team in the Herts Senior Cup. (The name of the team escapes me!)

Therefore he should be on 1.5%.

Broxbourne, Laz.

I was there that night when we 'murdered' 'em 2-1 and I was one of the last people to speak to Stuart Cash, after which, it was rather cruelly suggested that he lost the will to live and quit. For quite a spell, I was wracked with guilt. What had I said? What more could I have done?

The feeling passed eventually, however, and I was able to move on. The chap won a game and clearly couldn't cope with the pressures of success.

Cup games don't count for positions in the Managers Hall of Fame at the Fortress, of course. Nil points.

That's bad news for Sven though, who may have been eyeing up a possible vacancy at the Stadium of Might.

I've been impressed with the way Mr Roddis handles himself and the team, my personal opinion is he would make a worthy successor to the Great Man.
