Also unconfirmed reports on Confguide that wages have not been paid.

Update

Players wages have been cut and contracts have been broken but it looks like the club will carry on.

Transcript of a radio interview with Crawley`s chairman is on their forum

Are you thinking of Hereford?

I doubt we would/could provide the wages that Crawley`s players are on, Daryl Clare is reported to be on £2000 p/w plus goal bonus <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bigshock.gif" alt="" /> plus there is the full-time football issue.

Puts things into perspective with our situation with people asking if we should go full-time so we can be more successful, eh?

These chairman see little clubs with potential as a play thing and if they get it wrong, then they will just cut their losses and run, like with Hornchurch.

Just goes to show that Jeff and co know exactly what they are doing with the club financially and we have to be extremely grateful to them for our current position.

That doesn't mean we can help our envy of these clubs as they buy in better players and progress. I don't know about anyone else, but I for one certainly do feel like that. I know we're in a stable position, but if Jeff walked out, we'd be as buggered as anyone else and slide straight back to where we came from... unless someone else came in to take us over, that is.

Are you really saying that you envy Crawley and think that they have better players and are progressing as a club? Because i dont Ribbit.

Teams like Hereford in this league have the money and success because they are big clubs. We are not and wont be until we consolidate in this league and build slowly.

Crawley came up at the same time as us and spent lots of money, which we did not. It has come back to bite them in the ar*e while we are holding our own in the Conference. I am not envious of Crawley or any small team who tries to early to be a big boy in this league. I think we are in a great position at the moment regardless of our league position.

Of course we would be buggered if Jeff went. We already know this Ribbit. Jeff is a successful businessman and he knows when to spend money and when it is the right time to go full-time.

I am envious of these clubs but i am also a realist and know that we should never be in a position like Crawley or feel envious of clubs like them or Grays who could crumble at any time. I will back any financial decision that Jeff makes about this club because he like us only wants what is right for this club. And that is not to gamble with it by taking unneccessary risks like Crawley have.

Goes to show that Canvey are right to live within their means. Crawley have got to ambitous and started thinking they could get into the Football league but its all gone wrong for them and it will take them years to recover from that.

At least it looks like we will only have one relegation spot to worry about now.

With the players they have, they should stay up but they are not in a good situation.

I wasn't having a go Ribbit. It just sounded like you said you were envious about rich clubs and i thought you included Crawley in your theory. Didn't mean to sound pissy.

On a reply to another comment - No, Crawley have not gone bust and their chairman has not legged it but do you think that will be the case if they go down and lose everything?

From what i`ve read i think he will stay even if they go down, not sure what you mean by "lose everything".

If Crawley were out of the relegation fight before this all came about i could see why some of their fans would be after the chairman`s head, but after seeing Crawley at Park Lane i can fully understand why the chairman has asked himself why he`s paying top wages for a side that`s not trying (and may go down anyway) and cut the wages.

I doubt anybody who has so far invested £800,000 out of a promised £2 million is going to walk away from the club, and i doubt there is a que to buy him out.

As i said in a previous post i`ve got a feeling Crawley will stay up and i really don`t think they will go bust, that`s not saying i wouldn`t be very worried if i was a Crawley fan.
